timing belt

a few months ago i had a timing belt // water pump job done, at my local mechanic. i noticed a day or so later... there was a whooring sound coming from the belts. im thinking they put the timing belt on to tight. took it back to the shop and they loosened the belt up, so they said. got the car back, and the noise stopped for a few days. then it just kicked in again. took it back, and they insisted they loosened up the belt...i didnt press it much further seeing how the shop hook me and my dad up with cheaper prices and good deals.

now the sound is just bugging the heck out of me, i presumed the belt would stretch it'self out and would go away.

any one have ideas?

I did mine myself but took it to a Nissan Mechanic in TN to check it over for me. I tightened mine according to the writeups and Haynes manual but I still got that sound you describe. The mechanic said that was normal and it would go away once the belt broke in. Another dealer mechanic in MA who did my broken exhuast manifold studs, told me the same thing when I asked him about it. He said in fact that his mechanics put them on on the tight side knowing that they will loosen up. Mine as began to decrease in noise, after 3k miles.

Good luck,

Yeah, after the first tech said it would go away and I lived with it for a while, I was sure to ask again when I had the car up here in MA and had the broken exhuast studs done if it was normal and they said yes. The tech also said they always put them on a little tight anyway, so I feel a little better about mine and its getting quieter all the time. Just took a little to long for my taste. I almost went back in to loosen the tensioner up a little but the flashbacks of all the work to get to it kind of kept me from it. Did you use a new tensioner also? Goodluck, and turn on the radio in the meantime.
