I have a '92 Max SE with 156,000 miles and the engine and transmission(auto) are slowly dieing down. This summer I am buying a new engine because I can't part with my baby but I also want to upgrade it. I haven't read anywhere about Max upgrades and what difficulties I have to face so I was wondering if anyone out there has done one or know anyone who has done one. Someone told me my best chance is to just go with the VQ30DE from the '96 and above Max. Anyone???

If you got A LOT money, go for it.....

not worth it my opinoin unless you wanna throw an SC on it, but thats ridiculously EXPENSIVE and you might as well just buy a '95+ Maxima! do search on here and I'm sure you'll find this more on this topic............

hey Da-Max

Do you think you're Jegs muffler really gets you 8hp for only $70? That'd be great if it does, but for some reason I doubt it...Just like some sites say my K & N plate filter gets me 10-15 hp, LOL...that'd be the day...

Of course not........

is that from my website?? HAHAHA.....I was just using the usual "Riceboy Mathematics".....from my knowledge I doubt there would significant gains from just a muffler, but I did notice a little more power with the addition of the JWT intake and the muffler, I doubt more than 1hp, if any, but I I never dynoed it, thats why I'm hoping Eben can organize the Dyno meet! I don't think the real HP gains from exhaust are really consistent until the entire system(y-pipe, cat conv.) goes in.........

VQ

I have thought about doing that conversion before... What I have found is that the central motor mounts are more to the pass. side of the engine than our VE30DE's and there is another engine mount on the front of the motor to deal with that you don't have in the VE, in other words, you would have to do some custom work to fit it.
I would encourage you to research it and see if it is feasible because there are a lot of people who would like the VQ. You would be the first that I know of to do such a conversion unless I figure out how to do it first....

Re: If you got A LOT money, go for it.....

well, i can get a '96 engine, complete with everything, shipping and a 2-year warranty for under $1,200. the engine has less than 40,000 miles on it. everything on the car is in excellent condition. i just added a Weapon R intake which added a couple more hp. i can beat any car off the line here including any modified honda(cause hondas suck) and acura. so you can see why i don't want to give her up, plus being a college student, i don't have the money to buy a new car.

PS. my dad works for Nissan in Symrna, TN on the assembly line. while he doesn't know about the engine conversion, he is the type of guy that can make anything work.

well, still you're lookig to spend big cash since it involves a lot of custom work!! I don't really see it as being a decent upgrade IMO!! I'm sure you could get a custom VE, S/C or turbo conversion for around $4-5K......

I agree with da max. You could also sell your 92 now and buy a 95+ with low miles with the money you were going to spend on the vq upgrade

haha, I wouldn't get so caulky saying you cna beat any honda off the line...Some people drop new engines and a rack of mod's into the small civic hatchbacks, and even though it's ugly it can be fast as *****. Check out superhonda, there was some thing with this honda guy that gets like 9's in the 1/4 mile.

Speed, you are so right!!!!!!

after one trip to Capital Raceway last summmer and seeing a
sleeper(no stickers, not NOTHING) mid '90s Integra pull a 10 second flat run and embarras a Supra, I'm very picky of which Hondas I pick on! fortunately around the Silver Spring/Rockville/Tacoma Park area I've encountered nothing but poser Roceboys!! but be careful!

In Idaho we don't got to many 9 second Honda's to worry about. HEHE. there all pretty much rice posers. There are a couple quick ones around but nothing like that. Most of the people around here stick to the 300zxTT, Supra, old Chevy and ford muscle.
Not to mention the 2 Skylines running around and the Vipers.
