I HAVE A 93 SE W/ 130K. I CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 3000 AND PERFORM PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. EVERYTHING IS ORIGINAL EXCEPT THE VTC'S AT 30,000 ARE THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON MAINTENANCE OR ANY OTHER IDEAS SO THAT I MAY KEEP MY MAXIMA FOR ANOTHER 130K? HAS ANYBODY DRIVEN THEIR 93 SE TO 200 K W/OUT PROBLEMS?

THANKS

Sweeeeeeeeet.

My Maxima has 185k on it and it still drives like a new car the only thing that went on it was the trany. Just keep up the maintenance.

depends how much u love it..

I have 97k miles on my 93 SE.... tranny died, that was the only major problem so far. I am not planning on holding on to it for very long, i don't know, i'm kinda stranded because I really want a 4th gen but have no $$$... Anyways, there have been people here that claimed 200k miles, a little while ago there was a guy who said he had something like 360k miles on his 89 SE 5 spd. Original motor and tranny! wow!.. Thats pretty damn good I say. I say, if u really love the car, u can expect the motor to last a lifetime as long as u do regular maintanence.. plus u allready got rid of the VTC problem on our VE engines, only other thing to watch out for could be the automatic tranny...

I have a 89 Maxima with 204,000 miles. I bought it new. It has a manual transmission.
One problem that comes up is the window riser mechanism. Nissian used a nylon block that breaks. It can be prevented by lubricating the window weather stripping.
I assume that you have a good handle on timing belt changes. I changed mine at 107,000 miles and I'm overdue now! The engine is zero clearance, so it's 4th of July if the belt breaks. Does anyone know how far the belts can be pushed?
The hoses lasts a long time, except when oil gets on them. My power stering hoses had to be replaced.
I'm new to this group and think its great!

actually, he has a 93 SE so he has the VE30DE engine which has a timing chain instead of belt like the VG30E that you have

My max is a 91 gxe and it has 154K on it. So far I have just did regular maintanance and the last thing i had to replace was the alternator (most likely becuase of my stereo system). Still have the originally tranny in it too. I bought the car with 145K on it and the pervious owner had it for 2 yrs and put 70,000 highway miles on it. Im not seeing any signs of tranny slip but i started a "tranny fund" just to be safe! Well hopefully ill go 200K+ like other have!

If you have touched the fuel filter, air filter, PCV valves & hoses, EGR, O2 sensor, spark plugs, etc.. now would be a good time. You should get better gas mileage once all is said and done.
