4th Gen seating to 3rd Gen

Has anyone tried installing the seats of a 4th gen. Max into a 3rd gen Max? If so, what were the results?

So it can be done? I'm most interested in the font two seat, back also if it can be donr. Got any ideas? My interior is fadein and most 3rd gen interiors dont look so good.

2 words for you

Katzkin Leather.

I got mine for 565 shipped with install kit during a special and is one of the best things I have done to the car as of yet. Check the group deal forum.

It will NOT work. My friend bought leather seats one time and they were from a 4th gen and the guy who sold it to him told him it was from a 3rd gen, we tried to put them in but it didn't work so he took them back to the junkyard and got his money back.

I have full cloth (gray) front and rear seats for sale. Good condition. I would NEVER put 4-gen seats into a 3-gen. You're not gaining anything and it's a custom install. If I had to go to all that trouble, I'd be putting in some better freakin' seats then the 4-gen ones.

...because my seats are fading and every 3rd gen Max seat are either fading or cracked. I could better lookin 4th gen Max seat without spending more than $300 but if they don't fit i'm out the loot.

No, it never crossed my mind. Is that what you have? Do you have any pics? Do you have front and rear?

Our headrests actually move and the side bolster feel just a little bit better. I would just stick to our seats and pick up some new leather.

they only move on 92+ seats. 89-91 seats are fixed.. but that's a moot point now.

how about a set of 300ZX seats? I've got a pair for cheap, but they'll need to be recovered also...

or you can do what I did and buy some racing seats. my Corbeaus are extremely comfortable and WAY more support than swapping in anything from a street car. of course, there's a big price difference too....

i have 98 leather that is going to go in my car. the fronts are wider and tracks wont work without serious mods, the rear butt section fits right in, lil shorter in ther corners, the back top is wider and shaped differently in the top corners, also about an inch to two higher. it can be done if you can fabricate it, if not dont mess with it

I tried looking around my area for some Z32 seats, but I never had any luck. I'm just gonna give the junkyards in the area a once over again to see if I can find any stock tan leather seats in better condtion before I sell my car.

The tan in the Z was much darker than the Max.. will NOT match. it's like doodoo brown compared to a sand color..

I got the driver's side in. haven't messed with the pass side, because I'm trying to find another way to do it other than drilling holes in the floorboard.

It is a GXE thing. I swapped to SE leather from a 89-91 and the headrests do not tilt like my gxe cloth. Also, the grain of leather and seam patterns are different on the SE maxes from 89-91 as opposed to 92-94. The leather is a better grain (smooth) on the 92+ but will not last as long (normal wear and tear) as the (grainer) 89-91 leather.

Look up CandiMan. His interior is definitely NOT stock and is pretty stylish, if you ask me.

i have a full set of 4th gen seats that are going into my car.
i hate the beige so i got the charcoal seats for about a $100 from a 4th gen buddy of mine.
the install has been delayed due to fitment issues, but really...it's not that hard.
i'll post pics whenever it's done and show that it is possible and that it has been done.

ill have mine in as soon as i put paint on the car, i dont want to mess up the leather while getting it ready for paint. hopefully a month. the only fitment issue i have is the rear seat as it has a slightly different back contour. the front seats just need new brackets

Still don't know why you guys are dumping the 4th gen couches in your cars. they have ZERO lateral support... then again, you guys don't drive fast.

shavedmax, the brackets you refer to are the ones that came from the 4th gen or something custom.
matt93se, I wouldn't feel safe driving fast with stock seats. Maybe with 5pt sparcos though.

custom. the 4th gen seat if you place it on the floor is level fron to back, while ours will topple(not the right work, but cant think of it ) to one side because one of the legs is shorter. you just have to make some sort of bracketry to hold the rear legs to the floor of the car( ill be welding the bracket in, this way there's no safety issue, and bolting the legs to the brackets. . the front is easy as pie, one bolts right in, the other has to be drilled out because its too wide. if i get a chance while i do it ill take pics. my only concern is the back fitting.

and matt, i personally like the way the 4th gen seats feel. my seats now are a little work out and the 4th gen seats are nice and firm. i had a set of cloth ones in my buick century and they were awesome.
