Transmission Clunk
Transmission Clunk
I do not usually ask for help on this forum. This is due to the fact that I have had 230k trouble free miles (mostly).
I just performed a major engine tune-up and overhaul. Engine runs great, my problem is that now the transmission “clunks” into first and sometimes when shifting from first to second. At the same time I tuned the engine, I changed the transmission fluid (Castrol ATF). I did not change the filter due to a lack of motivation.
I do not know much about an automatic transmission. Normally I would search the site for previous discussion (I hate to turn the same dirt for those of you who are regulars), but are there any suggestions for reducing or eliminating the clunk without pulling the engine and transmission for a transmission overhaul?
Regards,
Glen

Did you find out what the clunk was? I just noticed a clunk on the 1 - 2 shift when I was flooring the gas. I just had the VB Mod done 2 weeks ago. The 2 -3 and 3 - 4 are quick and clean under hard acceleration.
Is that clunk a bad thing?
Thanks
Gil

Turns out it was a broken motor mount. I also have a 280Z and jumped over to one of the forums that I keep up with and asked the same question there. One of those guys suggested the mount.
Car runs great now except for an exhaust leak where the manafold bolts to the head (major pain to fix).
Thanks anyway. Hope this helps.
