Catalytic Converter question

1. What are some signs that your catalytic converter is dying or clogged? Can it cause hard shifting or stalling?

2. What is a decent brand for a 92 SE? I'm not looking to race, just to get better performance from my car.

3. What's a good price for a CC?

4. How hard is it to change yourself? Any tips or things I should know?

1. A clogged or "dying" cat is not going to make the car shift any harder or softer.

2. Even the best aftermarket high flow cat provides minimal performance at best.

3. Pay $80-100 for an aftermarket Catco cat, or go OEM which can be double that.

4. Its taken off be removing 4 bolts. Just soak them in penetrating oil for 15 min. before you attempt to twist them off.

If you have any more questions try using a quick search. All your questions have been answered already and probably in more detail.

If its clogged it will run like crap and smell bad....something like rotten eggs. If you decide to buy an aftermarket catalytic converter I suggest buying a carsound (hi-flow supposedly) from www.warpspeedperformance.com it costs $107.50 shipped to your door. Installation is pretty simple like Jon91se explained but if the bolts break its not a big deal since warpspeed provides you with new nuts and bolts and new gaskets.

Yeah I'm trying to fix that through the server special, but I need to see if I even have the funds for that.

quick question from a new zealander that doesn't know...

Is it law for you guys to have a cat. installed? cause over here, if there's any trouble with them, we just cut them out and either add in a resonator or just straight pipe

emissions regulations here in the US depend on the state - some less populated areas dont require any emissions testing but others (california is the worst) are really picky
