dash & a/c ? gas tank too.

i just got this max for $500. the chick didn't have room for it. it sat for a year almost befor i got it. it runs good,ac worked. now the dash and the a/c work and then they stop? if i bang on the dash a few times they kick on. i know a bit about cars but i don't know this. as for the gas tank, if i put more then 1/2 a tank you can smell gas. a friend told me i need a filter on the tank. the car is killer for the money. i want to get everthing to work like the door codes, back windows, and the stuff above. help me if you can. tY

As far as the dash is concerned, you might want to check out you Timing Control Unit (TCU). I had the same problem with mine.

good luck man! welcome to the wonderful world of the maxima, hehe.. Theres a lot of good stuff that'll help you in the FAQ's, and when the server is all sorted out, the search will help you sort out any other problems you come across!

Are you getting any fuel leaks from the tank? or just the smell? does it smell inside or outside the car? As for the filter, the one under the engine bay should be enough, provided it's replaced at regular intervals..

have fun!

it wouldn't hurt to see if the TCU is the problem. is there any gas on the ground by the fuel tank?

check your fuel hoses in teh engine bay. there was a post a few weeks ago stating that the hoses determiorate over time and need to be replaced. It helped another guy fix teh gas smell problem.

when i get $5 in gas it won't smell. then i bounce the back end up&down you can smell it. i think there is a whole on top. so if i fillerup it stinks for like a week. i need a new tank i guess.
