I currently have a 93 GXE with Leather and 110k miles; stock just bought it 6 months ago from older lady. Fairly clean. I now have the opportunity to buy a 89 SE (I think) with only 36,000 miles (yes only 36,000) from my wife’s grandmother she is the original owner and it is garage kept and in mint condition. She drives it only 3-4 time a week around town and she wants to get rid of it because the digital dash does not work anymore and the dealer told her $950 to fix it.

I wanted to know is there anyway to definitely tell if it is an SE or GXE? It has Leather, BOSE audio, Sliding Sunroof, Digital Dash, Electronic Climate Control, but NO spoiler; this is what is throwing me for a loop. Everything I read on the site says that the SE has a spoiler. Was this standard or an option on the SE model in 89?

Also are there other problems I should look at besides the Digital Dash? And any recommendations on what to do for the dash? If you think I should send it out, who should I use and where you happy with them?

I'm not positive, but, I think that the spoiler was an option. From the sounds of it, it definetly sounds like an SE because I've never known of a GXE w/ Bose Audio system. But, I could be wrong.

 

it is a GXE. If it has chrome around the windows, keypad on the door handle and red center section of the trunk its a gxe. The 89 SE didnt come with a digital dash or auto climate control.

the 89 SE came standard with a spoiler...no option there. The Bose was an option in the GXE. I have a 92 GXE with bose.

 

I agree with awsm66, definetly a gxe. Sounds identical to the gxe i stripped parts from this last weekend. Another way to tell is by looking at the side mirrors. If the mirrors are painted the color of the car, the car is a gxe. Se maximas 89-94 had flat black mirrors.

So what do you guys think I should do, should I keep my 93GXE with Leather and 110k miles or should I buy the 89GXE with only 36,000 miles, loaded with all options and in mint condition for $2500 then sell the 93GXE?
