Another damn Knock Sensor question
Another damn Knock Sensor question
Ok, I read the technical thread on the knock sensor, but what I really want to know is what voltages the ECM expects under normal conditions where the ignition timing and the fuel mixture wont be tampered with. I really want to supply the ECM with an outside voltage from the range where it is normal. I understand that this may not be the best procedure for the life of the engine, but am looking for a solution until i am willing to pay for the gaskets ($45 & $6) and the sub-harness ($12?). Also, i do not want to use the resistor trick that poorcollegeboy has done, i have tried and have not had great results.
if you are speaking of sending the computer the same resistance as the knock sensor so the computer doesn't start retarding the timing then what you need to do is buy a 470,000 ohm resistor from radio shack and place each end in to the unpluged knock sensor harness,{computer side of harness}. The resistors come in a pack of 5 for .99. I recently performed this rig and it worked great,no more codes and car is more responsive
This mod is great for troubleshooting the knock sensor circuit. Once you've determined whether it is the problem you need to fix it. and not muck around. Spend the $70 and save yourself $1000. I guarantee you won't hear your engine self destructing until it's to late. BT-DT-GTTS.
If you can't afford to fix it, live with it until you can. If $70 is hard for you to scrape up, just think what a new engine and install will cost you.....
