i grounded my vtc's and they were doing great for a while. then my engine started to hesitate a little, both at low low rpm's (i.e. from a stop) and at a few points further up on the tach. i thought it might be due to the grounding so i disconnected the ground wire expecting things to go back to normal (read: for the clacking to come back).

well what happened is that i got my low end power back, but over 50 miles later, the vtc's are still quiet! it's been 1700 miles or so since my last oil change, so they should be clacking away by this point.

this can't be good, as i don't see how sitting dormant could cure the vtc's problems. any thoughts?

haha... me either, my vtc's havent gone bad yet... and hopefully not for a while, my car only has about 86000 miles on it

 

If you have your oil changed at Nissan dealer or you use
an OEM nissan oil filter, you will not hear VTC noise.

 

yes i use the 60U filter and yes i use the correct weight oil and yes my vtc's still clack. so do everyone else's. if only it were as easy for us as it apparently is for you...

 

Just like Jake, on both of mine, the oil was changed religiously with the right filter and correct weight. Yet at around 120-130K on both of them, "clackety, clack clack!" I really babied everything about my gold one, to boot. I think it is going to happen to everyone eventually.

I am going to ground my red one soon. I am getting tired of friends calling it the "Maxima diesel."

 

i have heard that if the vtcs are grounded for awhile, when they are ungrounded they dont tick 4 awhile...but dont worry...theyll start ticking again soon

You can't blame him, he probably heard this from the very same dealer that charges him 30-40 for a oil change which includes their fancy 20 point check (which is another joke) with each lube oil and filter.

 

No, I just pay $22.5(totally) for an oil change at local nissan
dealer.

 

yeah the two dealers i've been to for oil changes don't charge all that much. if your dealer gives you a $30 or $40 bill for LOF, find someone else to change your oil haha.

 

That price was just a number I throw out there, nevermind.
