It says in your profile you are a cop. Shouldn't we be asking YOU what's the best way to keep from getting OUR stuff stolen?

Personally, I think it's never "cool" when someone yanks my stuff, usually breaking locks, windows and scratching paint. Alarms are a help, but not invincible. Police aren't much good, either (not their fault).
If you bolt your stuff in really good, theives usually just get mad and break other stuff out of spite. I've had a friend bolt his box to the floor and a theif ruined his subs with a screwdriver because he couldn't get the thing out.

I think the best thing you can do is buy a house with a garage. Or rent one from your apt. complex (I did this for several years before I bought my house).

Good Luck

Sure, there's ways to DETER your stuff from getting stolen. But no amount of alarms, pain generators, shock treatments, or big, bad@$$ Rott's will stop the determined thief. Take it from someone that wasn't always the 'good guy' I am today. The problem with the innovative mind, is that we'll FIND a way around stuff. Put in the most sophisticated alarm on the planet, and I guarantee you, someone will find a way to get around/bypass it. Lock your car in your bedroom with a chain link fence and Fem-bots guarding it, and some knucklehead with a chip on their shoulder and and idea in their head will "afro-engineer" their way around and into your prized possession. The best you can do is keep stuff as 'stealth' and factory-looking as possible, keep your doors locked, keep your insurance paid up, and pray for your car when you pray for your family at night.
