I Cant Get This Fukin Factory Air Box Out
I Cant Get This Fukin Factory Air Box Out
Ive tried to unscrew all of the screws and take off all nuts but I cant get anything loose and they are starting to strip. Im getting sooo frustrated and Im running out of ideas. I know a few people on here use large cutters and and just cut the dam thing a part I was trying to avoid so that if I sell the car I could put it back in just incase they didnt want the K&N but I think that may be my next move.
When I was removing my air box it gave me trouble, until I noticed that two bolts or screws were holding it from the bottom, try lifting the box and looking under it, if I remember correctly there should be like 2 additional bolts that are not visible just by looking at the stock box and if you remove them, it should come off. Are you using a screw driver or a socket? Use a socket its much better if you're using a screw driver.
Recently, I removed my air box to remove the engine and trand through the top. If I remember correctly. Your air box does not mount directly to the frame. Instead, the bolts are attached to a special gromet nuts sitting in hole with an installation hole next to it. I don't know the exact term but you have a couple of options to get them off. You can try squeezing the gromet with long handled needle nose pliers while you turn the bolt or you can try spraying the gromets with silcon spray and working the gromets off the frame mount. Good luck
turn hulk green and twist the airbox off of those grommet nuts. when i did it the airbox was the last piece of the factory stuff i took off. i did the "hulk twistie thing" (to your left while on the drivers side of car) and it came off no problem.
Curse some more and then get the saws-all out, that can fix most problems quickly
I wouldn't worry about putting the stock air filter back in for resale value. Just tell the potential buyer that you got tired of buying replacement air filters so you installed one that you could clean plus it gives more power and sounds better, that ought to keep them satisfied...

here's a few pics for you that should help. it's install of my WSP CAI, and shows step by step how to remove the airbox and other associated stuff...

Namely, look at pics 11 and 12. you can see the brackets they're talking about with the grommets in them.

I took the lazy way out and just took the top off.. I left the bottom half of the box just laying there because I didn't want to mess around underneath it... Well, that and it was dark and I never cared enough to finish the job... Plus it gave me a resting place for the filter I did put on it
