Coil Pack Replacement For Cheapskates!

HA HA,

just kidding... but in a perfect world we all like to replace all 6 coil packs but for some of us (like me) its just not economically feasible.

some tips:

Check your spark plugs and check for a cylinder that may have definite misfiring. Whenever you look at a plug change it.
(on my 92 se i had cylinder 2 look like the plug had never been touched in a 100 years when in fact it was only a year old

clean the packs with electronic parts cleaner to remove any corrosion. (inside metal spring.) again if you got the cash replace it

CHECK YOUR ECU FOR CODES! you may get a code the says something like random misfire cylinder 3. Change that pack and see what happens

also autozone makes new coilpacks with a lifetime warranty for 60 bux a pop. they say nissan on them so maybe they are rebuilt or the company that makes them for autozone (wells) does it for nissan as well. ( who knows?_)

6 packs $360 warranty
versus 6 packs $660 you install it you own it

also look for cracks and burned pieces

You can measure the resistance across the packs but honestly they will behave until you start to drive or put em under a real load

good luck!

Hmm good info. thanks for the source on the parts. I've got two that are cracked, but the car still runs good. just something else to replace. ugh.

$60 a coil isnt bad (then again 6 coils is, but still).

You could also buy some normal/standard/etc ignition coils, some spark plug wire/boots/terminals/etc and make your own setup, but for the $60 a OEM type of coil, its not really worth it to do my idea

yea they work fine... but they dont come with either the rubber boots (with coil extension) or the top dust boot that fits around the opening. got to transfer and re-use your old ones.
