good luck.. $$$$$$>>>

I believe our nissan parts liason mr. kaleb checked it out.. comparing part numbers and such. Looks like everything from the brake booster and master cylinder to the lines are different. Read $$ to swap it all out.. and I think you might need to even change hubs in the rear.. the disc mounts different than the drum.. its gonna be all kinds of fun to change it all out ..

Justin, I had the Nissan parts guy here in town look it up when I was gettiny my new rear shoes. he said the master cyl, brake cable, and rear struts are all the same. the only thing you need to change is the spindle/hub assembly at the end of the struts. he said it shouldn't be that difficult.

I'm gonna go this weekend to find a fender for my car (gotta have that done before IASCA Finals. , and I'll try to steal some rear disc assemblies then too.

matt,

can you let me know the status on that? I've got a 1992 Nissan Maxima GXE, and I think that it's a 3rd gen like your 93..so if you're successful, let me know! I want to do it..I hate those rear drums. letme know prices, and labor, etc >

Will do!
yes, your 92 is EXACTLY the same as my 93.. (well, other than mods, and my stereo is louder. But part-wise, they're the exact same car.
on the GXE, the 92-94 are exactly the same, and the 89-91 GXE and SE have many of the same parts. there are a few interior parts that are different, but that's about it. the engine and suspension and body are all the same. Well.. the springs on the 89-91 SE are said to be a little stiffer, but that's it.

the 92-94 SE is a different beast altogether. it has a different engine, and a few other things here and there (like rear discs)..

I'll keep you updated on the rear disc thing, but it may be a while before I get to doing it.

Last show, I hit 131dB... but keep in mind my car is built for SQ, not SPL. I've got just as much power running my mids and highs as I do on my subs.

I'm running a PPI A600.2 on three JL 10w6 subs. 600W mono.

Future plans are dumping the JLs (they're 5 years old now, time for new toys and installing four FOCAL 33F subs. two in the rear deck, two facing through the back seat. They're free-air subs and hella efficient.. that way I'll have tons more room in the trunk, and I can do some cool stuff with my amp rack instead of having it take up 75% of my trunk with box and rack.
I'm gonn put a switch on the subs so I can run either or both pairs of subs off the A600.2 amp. that way I can get kickass SQ when I want it, but when it's time for SPL, I can go dump 145 dB on the meter all day. ;-)

Now if only I could come up with the $1100 and two weeks needed before IACSA Finals.

I killed my rear shoes 2 or 3 times in the 1.5 years I had stock front brakes.
squeaking and noises were ALWAYS there. when I upgraded my fronts, I changed the rear shoes (for the 2nd time), and the problem only got worse.. then when I smoked my front pads at Maxus, I changed my rears again.. that time I had to replace both wheel cylinders in addition to the shoes..

the rear drum system needs SERIOUS attention before the stock fronts show any problems. (well, that's under hard driving conditions, which would be the only reason anyone would need to upgrade their brakes). the stock drums are fine for daily driving, but if you do anything more than 1 or 2 60mph stops, the drums are toast. I fried them with ONE 100-0 stop. sheeeeit.

Well said

Those rear drums are the sorriest excuses for rear brakes I've ever seen. I had all the same problems you did.

Somehow, the U.S. market GXE ended up with the crappiest brakes. All gen3 Maximas came with standard 4-wheel discs with ABS in the Japan Market.

Mine is beginning to squeak again and it's driving me nuts!
