Anyone who knows about the 92-95 SE 5spd tranny
k here's the problem
in the past few days, my tranny has been acting up.
It works fine but whenever I punch it and shift into 2nd then when it goes up to around 4500 rpm in 2nd gear, the gear starts to whistle. Like a high-pitch whistling sound.
I keep punching it until 6000 rpm or so then shift in 3rd, then the sound disapears, then in 3rd at aroung 4500 rpm, the sound comes back but disapears again when I shift it in 4th.
What could this be?

Transmissions are strange creatures. I doubt anyone here on this board could really tell you. In my limited knowledge, try checking your tranny oil level 1st. Make sure it's up. If you haven't changed the oil yet, try using a good synthetic(ie.. Amsoil, Redline etc..) and see if that quiets down the noise.
I would say one of the main shaft bearings supporting the whole gearset might be going away. When you really romp on it, it might allow the whole gearset to move up/down. This would change how the gears intermesh together and might create a noise. But that's a REALLY BIG UNEDUCATED guess.
