I was at a local wrecking yard this weekend and they had a charcoal grey 92 SE 5-speed sitting in the yard with light front end damage and 170 miles on the odo. The car looks damn nice for that many miles and I can tell that the owner took care of it. Anyway, the car appears to have been side swiped in the right front but no serious damage. The right front fender was dented and the hood was off but otherwise it looked mechanically sound. I asked the guy how much he would sell it for and he told me $2700 and he'll throw in a hood and right front fender. I was surprised at the low price but of course I didn't show it. I told my girlfriend about it since she really likes my '93 SE and we're going to take a close look tomorrow. If it doesn't blow smoke, make noises, or have any hidden damage, we'll buy it and I'm going to fix it up for her. Do you guys think this is a good deal? I'm getting the VIN number and running a carfax report on it to make sure nothing is fishy.

It has potential. Start it and see if it drives fine first. You can really check the tranny w/o at least taking it for a short drive.

That sounds like an EXCELLENT deal, considering I bought a '92 SE, with a bad/shot engine, and 117,000 on the odo, for about that much. But just like Jeff said, see if it starts/runs first before you get designs for running off to Courtesy for that FSTB!

I looked at the car again this afternoon and, upon closer inspection, it had more body damage than I originally expected. The car appears to be quite repairable, but it's more work than I'm prepaired to take on. If any of you are looking for parts from a 92 SE, give A1 wreckers here in San Jose a call.

I'm looking for parts for my 92 SE, particularly a 5 spd tranny with a Limited Slip Diffy and I wouldn't even mind having some parts (including a spare, rebuildable engine) sitting in the shop when I start to mod mine. Did you get a chance to start the car and if so, how did it sound and was there any smoke, smells, etc.? Did the tranny/clutch engage smoothly and was there any noise in the drive line? If you've got the number for A-1 would you email it to me at hrs1_sdiego@juno.com so I can give them a call? Thanks, DT

Nailit - No, I didn't start the car. In fact, the manager told me he hadn't even started it since it arrived at his yard. Once I saw the extent of the body damage, I lost interest. However, the engine and tranny looked good to me. The interior was grey cloth and looked very nice as well. Their web site is http://www.a1autowreckers.com.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out their website and give them a call. Hope you and your girlfriend are able to find a ride for her. Best regards, Dale

Actually, she already has a ride. A '91 6-speed Corvette to be specific. She's looking for another car though so she doesn't have to put so many miles on it. Besides, she likes my Maxima a lot.

Good luck with your parts search.

regards,
Jeremy
