Trying to decide on a short shifter, need some info on them
Next mod is a short shifter, now the thing is I want to know what brand is better. I heard of Pace Setter, SMC and Stillen. I am leaning towards the Stillen short shifter but I wanted some input on these shifters from owners who have experience with them. Does the original shift **** screw in perfectly? Is there a bushing I should change when installing the new short shifter, if so the name of the bushing so I can order it.
All responses are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

jay cant make fun of your "mack truck shifter" anymore
from what he told me its better to have one with a metal ball.. ill probably get one after the swap
did the AE **** just simply screw on the stock shifter?

I was thinking about that Da-Max, because even if you shift slowly you're still shifting fast in a way because you're covering a lot of territory in a shift with a short shifter. I'm still trying to decide also because my tanny has no probs and I don't want to put this and probably have problems in the future.
Joe: yea I want to do something about the height also.

actually I've heard great things about Pacesetters STS on the Integra borad I goto....I guess only their exhaust systems suck ***! I really want one, but I'm VERY hesistant due to the stories I hear of premature synchro wear. and actually if you can't really use price as a comparison, because "higher end" B&M Edge shifter is only $50-60 as well. also I like the Pacesetter because it is adjustable. I hate the super short and slightly angled B&M in my friends CRX, maybe its just me, but you have to reach uncomfortably farther just to grab 3rd and 5th sometimes.

i have the pacesetter short shifter but i have yet to install it because i am waitin for my uncle because he has a lift... sucks that i have to go under the car to intstall it... anyways as soon as i do ill let you guys know how it feels and everything

what's a downside of cutting the stock shifter by about 2.5 inches? reason i ask is all i want is a short stick (that sounds really nasty) and be able to see my xm unit clearly. I also want to put a z shift **** which is longer and would make up for some of the cut shifter.

Thanks for the input guys, I will try to make decision soon and will update you with it. I'm leaning towards stillen for now.
Lordrandall: I would appreciate that greatly.
Lophix: Just by holding the shifter from the bottom and shifting makes the throws feel better. I guess cutting is not a bad idea but it ain't my style I want a brand name thing.

dont buy the SMC, the ball is plastic and expands when hot and makes it hard to move the shifter (except when going throught the gears while driving, but this could be because I might not have the heat shield under it, when I get a chance I will look.

well isnt it greased around the ball so theres no friction?
i dunno i may stay with the stock shifter when its swapped, i was sitting in my red 5sp shifting it through and i kinda like the feel

I'm also in the market for a short-throw kit. Who makes one that changes the linkages with new bushings? I want to keep the shifters height, i'm 6'4" and i like the mack truck height its comfortable.

it's a very expensive chance to take...one i dont want to have to pay for again (tranny rebuild) i'll be sawing mine down as soon as I get a z shift **** in.

More thoughts
, obviously I didn't spell something right in my second post. Mind you I didn't do it intentionally.
Seems like I remember someone mentioning that the Pacesetter had issues at the cat heat shield, that the shield had to be dented slightly to allow the sts to fit properly Decisions, decisions.

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I dont see how a STS would cause any more harm to the tranny than the stock shifter. If you compared a stock vs STS side by side, you would see how it shortens the throws- the section below the bushing on the STS is longer than stock. Its all about leverage. By lengthening the bottom side, the linkage will move the same distance (front to back) with less movement on the top (hence, shortening the throws). Therefore, with the STS, the effort it takes to move the shifter will increase because you are doing the same amount of work in a shorter distance (IE, you have less leverage). The transmission sees no difference. The only downfall is that sometimes with the increase in length on the bottom half, the shifter extends far enough to rub or bump the heat shield for the catalytic converter.

I've removed mine a few times before I got the shifter to try and move the stock pivot ball down, but it didn't work for me. Since my CAT bolts are frozen, I just moved it to the side. It's much easier if you can remove the CAT.
Not a hard mod.
