Adding sensor to Factory Alarm 3RD GEN.

Has anyone added a sensor successfully to your 3rd. gen Maxima? There's a nice write up for it over at VQpower.com but it's for a 4th gen. I've got a 92auto and don't know where exactly to find the 3 needed wires. There's a box right above the ECU, that I suspect is where they are, but am not sure.

do a little searching on it. I believe there's some info on craig B's page, and I know NGthing (oohhhh... never wanted to hear that name again!) put a shock sensor or something on his alarm.

What kind of sensor are you adding. Well anyway the alarm box itself is to the left of the steering column. It will be either a gold or silver box.

Two weekends ago, I wired a one-stage shock sensor. The sensor has three wires, positive, ground, and trigger. Wire the positive from the sensor into constant 12-volts, red wire, located in the steering column. The ground wire can be grounded to chassis ground. Make sure you use a good ground. Next, wire the trigger wire from the sensor to a gray wire/black stripe coming from the theft module, located under the steering column. This gray/black wire is the trigger for the factory alarm. The box is marked "THEFT MODULE". You will need to remove the lower panel to access the alarm brain--THEFT MODULE.

The sensor will be on the entire time. It's is not a problem. The gray wire/black stripe coming from the factory alarm is only active when the alarm is armed, so if the shock sensor sends a signal, it will get triggered. On the other hand, if the alarm is disarmed and receives a signal from the shock sensor, it will not respond, since the gray/black wire is inactive.

If you buy a two-stage shock sensor, the only additional step you need to take is to wire the pre-warm wire from the sensor to the horn wire, which is a brown wire/white stripe also located in the steering column.

Craig had a post a while ago regarding this. In his post, he recommends grounding the ground wire from the sensor to a green wire/red stripe from the alarm brain. This wire only gets ground when the alarm is armed. The ground this green wire/red stripe provides is not sufficient to trigger the alarm. I tried it but it did not work.

I hope this helps; let me know if you have questions.

Jason.

Thanks Nissan-R and fattamax for the info. I finally located that sucker. I tried searching on this forum, but it never seems to work. The way the write up was on VQpower, VQwriteup, I think the guy has it so that the sensor only gets power when the alarm is armed. But I guess that the sensor doesn't draw much power or cause any problems. This car just really needs a full aftermarket alarm w/ keyless. I'll have to give this setup a try though.
Thanks,
