Help me decide...

Help me decide on what to do before I start digging in to the body work and painting of my car. I can't decide whether or not I want to keep the spoiler on my car. I have only a month or so to finish up the body work, so I need to decide fast! Below this post are a few pics I took of both scenarios...

I've had the thing on there for like 2 years now... I just can't decide! It's the spoiler from an R-34 GT-R

I never liked the stock wing, that's why I took it off and sold it.

I've always been crazy over the Stillen Type II wing, though... and I wish I had the money for it!

BTW: what's up with the yellow tails??!?! lol, j/k !

Thanks for the opinions, guys. It's amazing how the opinions differ so much. I had another net poll going, and it was in the complete opposite direction. More people said to keep it. Also, people in my neighborhood agree I should keep it. Maxima 'purists' here on the org and some other forums think it should go. I was leaning toward getting rid of it all along, but not because I didn't like the way it looked... just for something different. I posted this here to see what the Maxima minimalists/purists think!

I never thought it was that big, but I guess in a picture it can look a little large.

I never actually measured to see how far it came up off of the trunk

I say take it off, but put on a smaller one. But w/o it, it looks very clean.

I think the wing itself is pretty nice, but your car looks better without it.

But, it's your car.

Keep it, Geoff. It's one of the most distinguishing features about your car IMHO, and if you went without it (or even with a stock wing), you'd look like every other white Max rolling in the streets today. I'm all for individuality, while others are purists and opt for the OEM or as close to the OEM as possible.

THERE!!! I've said my bit, now lemme alone!

Take it off and throw it away. Either go with a low-profile wing or none at all. give it a nice clean look... Nice Ride!!

Well, I would be an idiot to take it off and throw it away. Not sure where that came from, but I'm not 'made' and don't have that kind of loot to toss. The wing is something like $700 from Nismo after the currency exhange (for a GT-R wing, not a regular R34 wing).

The wing was from a guy who I met through eBay who lives in Japan. He used to get me all kinds of JDM parts from junkyards and such for all kinds of cars. His brother had an unfortunate street-racing accident on the highway in Hong Kong, and I haven't done business with him since . He's kind of gotten out of the game I guess.

I get an offer every other day from someone on here to buy that wing. That's another reason why it's so interesting to see the results of the poll. Pretty close vote though!

nubiannupe: it's easily recognisable. If you're ever in my neighborhood, just describe my car to someone and they'll tell you where to find me! lol

I agree with nubiannupe, if you want to look like everyone else get rid of it, but what's the fun in looking like everyone else.

Thanks for voting

60% in favor of losing it so far... you know I'll probably end up averaging up all three of the internet polls I have going on this and deciding that way. I didn't care too much either way, so I thought it would be interesting what everyone else thought.

Get rid of the rear wing AND the front chin spoiler. Both are WAY to heavy looking for the car. I really like the dual exhaust rear though. Sweet!

what exactly do you mean by to heavy looking? Do you mean it looks to busy or something... or do you think it's heavy? It's just some fiberglass... it doesn't add that much weight. It weighs less than the urethane Stillen kit (surprisingly).

Didn't mean to make you upset or anything... Was just making a statement that the wing should go. Does the wing have any real purpose back there? Or is it strictly for looks? It really doesn't matter what other people think anyway? Right?

You didn't make me upset at all! Sorry if I was misinterpreted. lol I wanted to get people's opinions... just out of curiousity. Also, in the several years I've been one here, I've never done a poll before so I though it would be fun! lol

The wing, believe it or not, is very functional and does add enough downforce to feel it working... but like any wing (especially on a FWD car) it's function is limited to excessive speeds and manuvering. It would mostly be an aesthetic upgrade.

Thanks again for all of the input!

Dang, Geoff... you should've came up for that little meet they had out by Schaumburg, Il. I drove 10 hours just to get there. But then again, my sister stays about 5-10 min from Merrilville, so I just made a weekend of it.

That's too bad... I found out about it at the last sec, and I was heading there anyway. I was the only 3rd gen there anyway. And probably did the furthest travelling to get there. But don't worry... I repped 3rd gen's pretty well, I think!
