Quick stereo help

I am replacing my head unit right now, on the little drawer thing unerneath the radio is a door. My door has not shut since I have had the car. It just hangs open. There is a spring on the side of the radio harness. What is its purpose? Are the two related? If not, how can I make my dawer door stay close?

my 92 has been in my family since it was new, and i know that a) the drawer was replaced a long time ago under warranty b/c it wouldn't close and that b) when i replaced my headunit, i didn't see any springs that i remember.

so my initial response would be that they aren't related. BUT what you should do is try to take the drawer out as well, look it over, and figure out what's wrong. maybe you could even fix some little lock mechanism with super glue or something. worth a shot.

The 92 is different than 89-91. The 89-91 uses a flat door that open down instead of the "cup" holder that the 92-94 uses.

yes that spring is what is supposed to keep the door open and shut. take the drawer out and you should see where it connects.

man i didn't know there was a spring in there. when i got my car it won't close either so i took a strip of black velcro and put it on the two top corners of the door. the velcro keeps the thing closed pretty nicely. ghetto fix but it works.
