Hearing a clunking.....

Hi, guys, I'm hearing a clunking while turning, but only when going slow, like pulling out of my driveway. Is it the cv joints, or axles?
Thanks for any input.
Jeff

Nope, not the power steering fluid, just checked it. It's full.

check ur CV boots

get under the car and fidn the axel.. the CV joint.. and boot connects to the wheels hub, see if they are torn up.. if soo get new boots... unless they click alot when u turn.. then u need new axles

Jeff
might be spring related, a bearing or missing the rubber end.

Clicking is CV related most of the time. Clunking, which I just had happen to me is axle related. Axle's dry out and need to be replaced. My axle noise was just as you described.

my front passenger control arm bearing was...NON-EXISTENT! this caused major clunking when going over bumps and turning hard, particularly pulling out of my drive way...I also believe it to be the root of my steering prob where the steering wheel would change position while I was driving...check your control arms...

I'm hearing a clunking in the rear. I hear it especially when I go over a speed bump. I think it might be something with the either the struts or mounts...Im not too worried though because Im putting the Tokico's in soon

How is everything else with the car Jeff?

By the way: Meet this sunday check the NE forum

my clunking happened in the fronts when i went over bumps. when i changed my springs and struts last weekend, i lubed the upper strut bearing. i don't know if the grease helped or changing the struts. nissan dealer told me it was probably worn strut mounts (about 70.00 at the dealer, no thank you). i didn't replace them. there's a write-up at www.motorvate.ca.

If your strut mounts are worn then you probably should have replaced them. Eventually they will wear out even more and you will have to change them by removing everything again. You can get KYB strut mounts at www.taylorautomotive.com for about $36 each.

When I bought my car the first thing I had fixed was the strut mount on the passenger front. I would get a horrible clunking noise also, but afterward I would still hear some slight noises until I changed my lower control arm bushings.

Here it is

I am currently going throught the same prob, i took my car to my favorite mechanic, and he said my wheel axle is bad. Getting it replaced, costs about $130 parts and labor. Hope this helps, after all this is my frist post...
