step one of my color change is complete (pics)

well I got some paint and painted under my hood Saturday. The pictures really do not show the true beauty of the color. It has white and blue pearl in the paint that really gives it a nice look.

here are some pics sorry some are blury but I dont have real steady hands when it comes to taking pics.

Yeah my filter is rusted...getting a CAI as soon as I finish spending money on the paint stuff.

this one is when it was still taped up.

these are in the shade under my carport with the morning light coming in from the side.

WOW! You just masked the engine off??! That is a great job for not lifting the engine!!! You're very brave to do it that way. I'm going to black soon... I think I'll do it that way too now! I was afraid but after seeing yours from white to blue, white to black in the engine bay doesn't seem as scary! Great job!

Yeah its not too bad. A lot of stuff has to come off. I took all the stuff off of the sides here is a pic of the left when it was taped up notice all the junk that had to come off on that side...

There are a few spots that were hard to spray even with a touch up gun but those spots arent noticable now much less when the hood is on.

Black will definately be easier because you dont have to worry about taping up the hoses and stuff as much as you do with a different color because if you get black on the hose its no big deal really.

all in all I am very pleased with it but it would have been nicer if I could have pulled the motor if for no other reason to know that everything (even the stuff you cant see) would be blue.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far...I am starting to really get excited that my car is going to be finished before you know it.

well its not like Chris' and N34JZ's where the pearl is added to the clear. It is actually part of the mix that makes up the paint and is mostly to give it a different look with light...notice on some curves that it looks really light blue but in other areas its dark. In person you can see the pearl in it but I think it would be impossable to really capture it on camera. If I see it really come out in a certain light I will get a pic though.

thanks, actually I am just a customer service engineer (glorified title for a computer, large systems, network, and printer repair man lol.) dont know why the title is engineer since I dont design anything...I guess it should actually be Technician but thats the title they gave me

but I helped a friend out at his body shop for a few years out of high school many years ago.

yeah its a base coat/clear coat paint. 3 coats of clear...probably more than needed to be done in the engine bay but what can I say I enjoyed painting lol.

yeah the paint really looks beautiful in person.

I guess I should clear one thing up though. Basically the paint looks like a metal flake but instead of metal it is pearl and that is what gives it a different hue at certain angles...its really not pearl like you would think...like Chris' and N34JZ's cars (examples I used earlier) but if you look close at it in the sunlight you can pick out the blue and white pearl...especially the white pearl.

Thanks for all the comments guys and hopefully the car will be primed (PPG K36 rules) this week and I will paint the door jams and the bottom part of the car this weekend.

I am painting the bottom of the car so I can go ahead and put the kit back on and not have to worry about painting it off of the car and scratching it up putting it back on. I know it will probably be a little different shade than the rest of the car but figure I wouldnt take the kit off unless its to sell the car and probably not even then. If I do take the kit off then I can just paint the lower part charcoal like it is from the factory if it doesnt match anyway.

I still have some body mods I am working on so it will still be a bit before the car is finished but I hope to have it done in a month or 2.

It will still be a while because I have a few body mods to complete. If everything goes perfect I would say I will be finished at the end of July but we know things usually dont go perfect so I am shooting for the end of August.

Well I prefer not to give my paint code out but the paint code of the car you linked to is TK3 and is the factory Nissan color. Mine is just a little brighter than that.

painting it blue was my plan all along (started about a year and a half ago...cant believe its been that long) I even emailed Jacob when I first got the car and asked what his factory paint code was. I just wasnt sure if I wanted to go through the trouble. I finally decided I wouldnt be happy if I didnt paint it blue so I went for it.
