My specific hesitation problem

Ok, I've read a ton of threads on this subject and every one that I've seen is slightly different. I thought maybe someone could figure out mine if I was specific enough so I don't have to replace half the engine to get it fixed.

'92 SE, 173,000 miles, I have not had the 180,000 mile service replacing the spark plugs, etc.

This happens every 7 to 10 days, sometimes more, and usually only once a day about 5 minutes into driving it from a cold start, usually in the mornings, though it's happened in the afternoon before. It lasts for maybe 20 seconds or so of working fine then hesitation. Basically I press the gas, it works fine, but if I let off the gas just slightly it pulls back strongly as though I'm in a lower gear, and once I press the gas it's a quick jerk of acceleration.

Any clues?

Try cleaning your mass air sensor. My mechanic cleaned mine and my cam position sensor and my stalling problems have stopped (knock on wood). I don't know which one did the trick, since he did them both at the same time.

Also, when is the last time you cleaned your TB?

just some inexpensive places to start.
