New or refurbished injectors?

Ok, I'm working at nissan now, I get a discount on the parts- my cost is $74 for brand new injectors(a peice). Refurb = ~$65. Which one to get?
And is this smart: my firend has been a mechanic for 4 yrs, is almost done additional schooling so he car work on race cars, and has been playing /w cars for 6yrs. Would it be a risk to have him change the injectors, when I can get nissan to do it for $200 (money is a problem, but I don't want a broken engine)?
Advise?

Take out your old injectors and send them to RC Engineering (www.rceng.com). They'll Balance and Blueprint them for $25 each. You may want to order new o-rings from Nissan. It'll take a few days to get there, get done and get back. But they will be better then new when you get them.

You friend should have no problem replacing them if he's a mechanic. It's not a tough job.

RCE cleaning is overpriced!! www.cruzinperformance.com ...$11 per injector, same deal as RCE with a print out and everything! I've had friends send 2 sets of used turbo DSM injectors to them and they do a great job.

Please enlighten me...because without an ECU reprogram or some resistor tricks or playing around with an FMU/FPR it won't work. so please explain...

and since you've done your research why would you run 370cc injectors on an NA VG/VE to begin with??

oh. yes. thank you for the o-ring replacement advice. in the other thread, i neglected to think about that. i will get a replacement kit for the used squirters.

and about z injectors. like DA-MAX said, unless considerable forced induction with turbo or supercharger is going on, larger injectors on a stock setup will be useless especially if the computer has no idea that they exist. and if they even functioned when connected, would make the fuel-air mixture too rich and you would destroy the engine. other things need to be done before upgrading is necessary. i believe that stock squirters can handle surprisingly high hp gain n/a.

after reading everyone's posts between this and the other recent injector thread (if one injector is bad, should i replace them all?), my only fear with used injectors is the possible fatigue to the insides of them due to heat exposure over the thousands of miles of their lifetime.

I was planning on making a VE30DET But the cost of little things made me relieve it was better to just get a new car. I also never said making bigger injectors would work with no reprogramming or is cheap. I was going to buy stock Injectors from courtesy nissan when I thought I needed one.

understand.

as of late, i have fallen out of lust with the turbo max idea. but it may come around again someday. i'm beginning to get keen on N2O.

i'm saving turbo for the S14. SR20DET. or maybe even RB25DET.

trust me, thats much more economical than turboing the Maxima. after helping Max O/D turbo his GXE, and seeing the money hes spent so far, its way more expensive than it would be to SR/RB swap or simply turboing the KA24 in a 240.

To answer the original question, for $54 I'll go with the new injectors over the refurb. Let your friend install the injectors, but if you're still not sure about his skills just be there when he's doing the job just incase he has a "ooops" factor. What's a ooops factor you ask, it's that factor when he goes "ooops that shouldn't have happen" At least if it does happen you'll be there to be aware of the situation. Let it be known, no one is immune to the ooops factor from the novise to the pro.
