im 19, no credit, i have about $1000 saved up. I want a 3rd gen max, i been in love with this car since my mom got one back in 92. She had black 92 se. i make about 6-1000 dollars a month. Could i get a small loan? I know 3rd gen's don't go for that much anymore. I don't need a perfect car, just something that will get me from place to place.

I've never had a car before, no relatively nothing about buying cars also. Not really a car buff, i know a few things but not much.

Could you guys tell me what i need to do and know.

PS, how do i go about changing my name with my same email addy.

you're looking at a great car!!! when looking at 3rd gen's some problem areas are the following:
1.all 3rd gens have window motor/regulators which will go bad. they're a minor annoyance that can be fixed for around $240.
2.if you get a 92 or later SE, it has the VE30DE engine, and these can have problems with the VTCs ticking. the GXE has the VG30E and no VTCs, so keep that in mind.
3.the in dash clock might be dead.
4.if it's an auto, the shifter bushings could be worn out. the main way to tell is if you have to put the car in another gear besides drive and then back to drive to use that gear.bushings are like $1-2 per bushing.
5.the automatic transmission can go around 150k. it can be rebuilt for around $1600 by an independent shop.

other than that, they're great cars and are very reliable, with great styling.

that's all I can think of, other .org guys, fill him in on anything I've forgotten.

you make 600-1000 a month. wait 5-6 months and don't buy junk and you too will have a shiney max in your driveway.

a loan (from any commerical financial institution) is pretty much out of the question unless your parents cosign.

if you don't need a perfect car, any reason why you're looking for a maxima in particular? why not go for a cheaper car?

Yes a loan is out of the ques you have nothing so the banks will see that and in turn give you nothing. Neway i got mine for 5000 its a 93 se black 5spd with tan leather interior. VE30DE motor and its a great car and i couldnt be happier.

WELL...

I'm 19 and just took out a $3000 loan. My dad cosigned with me, which isnt bad, my name comes up first on the papers so it will help my credit. If you live near a farming community see if you can't get the loan officer to set you up with a farm loan. That's what I did.....3% less interest than a regular car loan. Hope this helps.

i just like maximas, can't explain it. its not my favorite car, but its my favorite car in a realistic price range for me. I'm tired of riding the bus everywhere, i work 35-45 hours a week, but i spend 20 traveling because i have to catch 3 buses and a train (within my city). and today, lol, today the damn bus broke down and i was late for work yet again. but im going off on a tangent, i have dozens of stories...lets just say im tired of mass transit.

i intend to have the max for atleast a year or 2 so i want something, stylish and reliable, just doesnt have to be perfect, and the max fits that for me.

unfortunately i live in a city, so that makes aquiring a car just a little bit harder. my mom suggested that i join a credit union and take out a loan, small one like 3k. Im already apart of a credit union so i am going to look into that.

thanx for the help everyone. i hope to have a maxima by november. so i'll be posting here alot with alot of questions.

anyone know how i can change my name? i registered here like a year ago, but i forgot.

maybe you can get lucky i did....i went from a 3 93 preludes i was tryin to finance at my bank to the max...i think they got tired of seeing me and just gave in...i was in your same predicament though....young, no credit (had lil credit cards), and about $1500.....they worked with me though, although the lady wasn't suppose to finance the car since it was over 10 years old, she did it anyway and i'm thankful everyday!! I think that might be your biggest problem though...tryin to get any 3rd gen financed this day is gonna be hard...just try to save up some more money and search your area for a 3rd gen....they're out there for good prices...just have to find it.....good luck!!!

I know the woes of public transportation, especially over a long distance. Just weigh your options and don't be impatient.

If you are in NE location , Go talk with crazy4maxima and his car is up for sale. I dont know if it is sold yet . I think he is looking at least $1000 or less. Do some search and you might hit the bingo.

Credit is something you should be working on... I'm 21 and have 3 Platnium credit cards totally about $20,000 in limits...

1. If you are a student, talk to your parents about Co-Signing on a Capital One student credit card. If they are willing, sign up for something with a recurring fee (cell phone, pager, ect) and use the card to pay for it. Just stick the card aside and only use it in an emergency. MAKE THE PAYMENTS ONTIME for alteast double the minimum payment due.

2. Try and sign up on your own for a Gap, Kaufmans, Structure, JCPenny, ect in store card. Credit institutions DO look at those accounts. They tend to be easier on getting a card too.

3. Talk to your bank about getting a very small loan like $500. Tell them that you are trying to build a credit rating. If you can get the loan, stick it right into your savings account and don't touch it. Make the payments on the loan using the same money you took out. You'll lose a few bucks on the interest rate, but nothing major.

I would push on trying to get your parents to co sign on something with you. You may want to tell them the scenario I said in number 3 about the loan. They won't see much risk in that. Even offer to let them put the money into their account and hold it. Grovel about I NEED TO BUILD A CREDIT RATING WHILE I'M YOUNG. "No credit is bad credit"

OK batman i was in your same situation... I wanted a 3rd gen max and i made about as much as u if not a tad bit more. I found a 92 black gxe leather ... the WORKS! it had 124k miles on it when i found it, the lady wanted $4500 for it. the car was in great shape but it was not worth 4500, more like 4000 MAX. i talked her down to $3500. ( i was so happy )
Now i didn't have that money in cash so i went to go apply for a loan at the bank and ended up talking with someone there who found out that i would be better of putting the $3500 on a credit card (which i iddn't have before i bought the car) and the interest on the card would be lower than if i had taken a $3500 loan. well i had no agruments with that idea since it would save me money and i am paying roughly $113 a month for 3 years on this credit card. Now that i did this i took my card and locked it up
So now as i am paying of the car i am also building up GREAT credit.
If you would like to see my car check out my homepage.

Well good luck to you! if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
PEACE!

A good way to get a loan when you don't have credit yet is to get a basic transportation loan. A state employee's credit union offers this kind of loan. They give you anything up to $7500 to purchase a car. Then you get payments taken directly out of your account. This is also a good way to build your credit if you don't have any. You could get the loan paid off pretty quickly if you already have $1000 down. I think the interest rate on this loan is around 5.5%.
The normal car loan rate at credit unions is 4.75%.. very good rate.

Join a Credit Union!! best thing ever. I just got 2900 for a 3rd gen. white 91SE 5-speed with 139k miles on it (new japanese spec engine - 36k total)

definately take your time and talk to a couple loan councelors about what your options are. If you can, make sure you get the payments taken out of your account directly, that alone got me 4.2% APR.

3-buses and a train just to get to work!! I applaud your work ethic and your motivation. Everyone has given you great advise. Follow it and good things will happen. Abuse credit and it will follow you for years. It takes much longer to get rid of bad credit rating than get a good one
