Hey Maxima fanatics who love their 3rd gens! We only have a few choices for engine swaps, one is the 85 turbo , 2nd is the 5th gen engine, and the worst is putting another brand from another auto maker, that would defeat the purpose of owning one of the greatest performance sedans. Well that leaves us two choices the 1990 twin turbo Z engine which is rear wheel drive, bummer but not impossible or the ultimate choice , and hardest, find a 1989 to current skyline Gt engine 289 bhp stock with the possibility of creating up to 600+ bhp. Dont forget nissan is thinking about selling 1,000 of the new skylines in american form in the fall of 2001! So if we all get together and tap this resource, the v8 population better look out cause this is the king of bangers , and unlimited potential, so if you fell where i'm going post back or email me!

Please do not consume drugs before posting in this forum.... It's all logical. A 300ZX TT engine will not fit without having to do extensive amounts of work. Your better off buying a 300ZX TT!

To begin the VG30DETT or VG30DE 90-96 300ZX NA and TT RWD engines will not fit in to a Maxima no matter how hard you try. The engine configuration is just WAAAAY to wide.

The SRTAIGHT SIX RB26DETT will not fit into a maxima either. unless you mount it at a 45 degree angle across the engine bay. (Think hypotenuse of a triangle) so you might as well forget this idea.

the Z31 engine will fit into our Maxima. It would require some adjustment of the engine brace that runs under the middle of the engine. It also would require the fabrication of a brace or two to properly mount the accessories.

It is possible to fit a VQ series engine into our cars. Again this would require custom fabrication as the engine mounts are in different places.

To my knowledge, Nissan does not intend to produce ANY left hand drive R34 Skylines. Nor do they intend to bring them to the US. The R35 MAY make it here as an Infinity Model sometime beyond 2002, although this is doubtful. The RB engines will be going by the way side with the R35, which is due out in a few years. It will be replaced by a VQ series engine.

It would be possible to put engines from another auto maker into the maxima chassis. There are at least two b13 rotary powered datsun/nissan 510's that i know of. There are also several z31s that have had a small block Chevy 350/383 dropped in them. I also saw one with a Ford 351C in it. A rotary powered maxima would be interesting, but not practical due to the immense weight of the sedan. The rx7 (which originally housed 99% of the rotary engines sold in the us) weighed a good 900 pounds less than the maxima.

I hope this clarifies some things for you. I'm not trying to be malicious with this post, just informing you of the facts. You may want to check out http://www.Z31.com for more information on the VG30E and ET engine. There is a lot of good information there. Also do some more research on the web. There is a lot of good information out there, BUT there is also a lot of BAD information out there. Use common sense before you think that everything is possible.

Please don't be smart @SS!!!

this is for Proman who said that the 300 ZX TT engine won't fit a maxima. For your information, there is a place here in dallas who is already doing it. They are rebuilding the engine from a TT ZX and are fixing to install it in a 1990 SE auto. The Engine fits PERFECTLY under the hood. the engine is expected to have 550 HP to the wheels. One thing about this is that the car will Have a TT engine but only one turbo is gonna be kicking in. because it's gonna remain a Front wheel drive. so please don't be coming up with idea that only you can't make it happens.

Re: Please don't be smart @SS!!!

LOLOLOLOL! Come on. They go to all that trouble to mount a TT engine but only one turbo is gonna be used??? WTF kinda logic is that?? And with one turbo is gonna put out 550hp to the wheels?? Now I know going single in a Supra is one thing but on a parallel Nissan TT configuration???

Okay like I've said about a billion times when people do this ignorant crap. Post a pic of this Z32 powered TT engine in a 1990 maxima Se AH....AUTO?? and shut my *** up. Okay? No photoshop smart asses okay?

And if you mean a Z31 single turbo, then your terminology is totally wrong and it's been done already.

well....I think I am gonna stop coming to this site. I thhought I am taking with some people who know what they are talkig about. When I said that the car with be running with single turbo, that was not BS. WTF , think before you say stuff. the engine is side ways. DUH..how the hell r you gonna get a secong intake for the secong TURBO. My godness, people think they know stuff but they don't know S***. and YES it's 550 HP, after you get custom pistons, ceramic-coat then and do other things to the engine. This procedure costs 15,000 with the custom exhust and intercoolers and the engine with T3 upgraded turbo. Well now you go and think about this.

Re: Please don't be smart @SS!!!

Give us the name & number of the place in Dallas that is doing the ZTT swap. Also, give us the name & number of the owner of the 90 SE auto maxima. I had a 90 SE auto and I tried the Z31 swap. Now first of all, the tranny will have to be replaced because it won't work. Now your talking about a Z32 swap. That's that a bunch of BS what you said. The Z32 engine won't fit in the maxima without cutting off the side fenders. And you say they are going to make if FWD? Now your talking crazy. Do you know anything about engines at all?? Also, you say they are going to use Single Turbo? BS... Most Z32 guys don't go that route.. Most of them keep the Sequential Turbos. I think your full of BS and to prove me wrong you'll need to get me some info (like I mentioned earlier)... give me some phone numbers and names otherwise don't post this kind of crap.

OMG! I'm sooooo sorry! I didn't realize you the Jim Wolf of Maximas. Your plaque for being the most knowledgeable person about engines for the maxima is now in the mail. For an extra $20!, I can even engrave your name too!!

Okay smarty, just how are you gonna take an engine that has two turbos running parallel fashion into two intake tracts and somehow disable one of the turbos and one of the intake tracts?? Even though if you plug up one turbo, you will not have anywhere for the exhaust to go?? And exactly where does the extra maf sensor and extra o2 sensor signals go?? huh? huh?? You want to even start trying to dig yourself out this ridiculas lie?? Since your soo close to where this "great oh mighty Maxima is", get a close up pic and post it. Simple as that? Or is it??

You want to accuse me of not knowing my ****? I'll eat you alive son. : )

Most of us here know about Vitaly... but only a select few of us know about Vitaly's max in it's current state. Sorry, I won't give details. The Bluebird in Japan is based on the Altima platform in the U.S. according to the guys at Altimas.net. Also, in Japan, they can do ALOT more with their cars then we can. So trust me.. It's not as easy as you think.

Ok to begin I have been working on cars for 6 years. I am most familiar with chevy and ford small blocks. I havn't messed much with my engine because i didn't have the funding or the time while in college.

Well if this was true you could fit a second turbo under there. Ever seen the set up in a twin turbo Mistu 3000 GT VR4? that engine is transversely mounted with a compact intake design.....

There is someone who frequently visits this board and they can confirm the fact that the vg30dett will not fit. Have you ever seen the size of the intake manifolds on that engine??

FROMAN the king of the SMART A$$ES

BTW i read SCC too... January issue ooooh look what i found.. project Z32 build up.. special coating for heads, valves, turbos and pistons......oooh what are they shooting for? 550 HP immagine that

Uhh yeah. SkyMax and I both know Vitaly's deal. We're "friends" with him. What's your point?

Hale-freaking-luyah. The Bluebird is not even related to the Maxima at all. If you're talking about the A32 Cefiro(4th gen) then I'd agree. Or maybe the A33 Cefiro(I30ish Maxima). But the Bluebird? WTF? Don't mess with my JDM knowledge, I'll tool on your ***..

Oh, I see somebody ate their tuffeios today. What's the deal with these 2 newbies? What are those people gonna do with that second turbo? Just blow off into the engine bay? LOL..

Anyone else have the November 2000 issue of sport compact car? well in readers rides there is a section that goes liek this........

"Vitaly Pinkhasov from phoenix decides to try dropping a rebuilt VG30ET engine from a 300ZX turbo into his 91 maxima. after a great deal of effort the 300ZX engine originally set up for rear wheel drive was fitted into the maximas front wheel drive setup most of the parts came fromt the 300ZX such as fuel pump intercooler and a set of 370cc injetors. upgrades include a T3/T4 hybrid turbo, custom CAI, HKS blow off valve, NOS dry manifold system MSD ignition and wires. the maxima now rolls on 18" Enkei G-zeros wrapped in falken rubber"

let me tell you this car is sick and hes got the Bimmer headlights and a nice grill job. but wow its gotta be fast, and why aint he in teh forum?

First of all, it's not a 91.. it's a 90. Second of all, he's way too busy to post on this board. And in reality, he has no reason to post on this board. He can also thank me for choosing the HKS BOV and the T3/T4 Hybrid Turbo.. hehehe

BTW, we already talked about this earlier in this post. There is more to Vitaly's car then there is listed in the magazine.. Right Mikey?

Re: Please don't be smart @SS!!!

I'm sorry maybe you have the facts mixed up. For example it is possible to run "TT ZX" bottom end with SOHC heads from a VG30ET made after 5/87. However I know for a fact that a VG30DETT won't drop in. At the austin meet Mr. Rose and I were eyeballing and taking measurements. The engine wouldn't have enough clearance and its too tall. The heads are about twice as wide as the SOHC versions, not to mention its alot heavier. Unless he is going to spend lots of money on the tranny/diff its going to break. I've even read TT.net for a while and only a few memembers are running more than 500rwhp. I agree that others were *alittle* harsh but I understand where they come from. But basically the TT engine won't fit.
