quick question!!

my clutch burned out i think because the car wont go in any gear this mechanic that i had it towed to said the clutch tube and cylinder was leaking..and would cost 250 to fix plus 450 hand labor could that be the problem?

Clutch burning out = Goes into gear but rpms raise faster then speed, along with a bad smell of something burning. Over time rpm/speed mismatch gets worse and worse and so does the smell. You may have REAL problems going up hills.

Replacing clutch = dropping transmission, $300 in parts and probably 8-10 hours labor @ $50-70/hr.

Won't go into gear USUALLY = failed hydraulic system, either master or slave. Master Cylinder probably around $60 and slave around $35. Probably around 1.5 hours to replace master and 1 hour to replace slave.

You could TRY to rebuild them as kits are usually in the $3-10 range. I find that rebuilds tend to either work well, or not work at all. So I prefer to just save myself the work and replace them rather then rebuild. Mechanics also will usually not fool with rebuilding them. You also might find that you fix one cylinder and 2-3 months later the other one fails. So be prepared to replace the one you didn't in a few months.
