ABS and snow...
ABS and snow...
Just curious as to whether you guys in the states etc get an abs setup which deals with snow better.. My max is a japanese import, and we got snow here for the first time in a while. As soon as i touched the pedal, abs came on and i sailed straight through an intersection!! Was only doing about 10km/h at the time too.. So i was just wondering if the system was designed with better tolerances for that sort of event in the more snow prone areas where the car was sold new? I know that australia allow tolerances for metal roads into their fords etc..
Random thought i know, just curious..

Well, it's more a metter of your available traction on the tires as to how well ABS works. If you have bald slippery tires, the ABS will come on with your foot resting on the pedal in slick slow
I had some great snow tires and the only time I could get the ABS to activate (without trying) is if I hit a patch of ice or something. You just have to know the limitations you have when driving in snow. If you only get it once or twice a year, then you have almost no experience with it and you really need to SLOW DOWN even if other morons are passing you. Don't wreck another Max!

Yeah, i hear ya! I got GT radials with about 7mm of tread on all 4 wheels, but they're by no means snow tires.... And was also going pretty slow, was just surprised by how much the abs limits braking performance in those sorts of conditions! Although i can understand why, the abs is doing its job perfectly - preventing the wheels from locking up!
