Factory Spoiler Question

Hi, my 94 Maxima originally had a factory spoiler, which was made out of a hard plastic or fiberglass. A while ago I got rid of that OEM spoiler and I just recently purchased a used OEM spoiler on ebay. When I received it and took it out of the package I noticed that it was bent in 2 places. And then I realized that it's made out of a tough rubber like material. What's up with that? So, I was just wondering if through out 89 and 94, did they change the style and material of the factory spoiler or possibly have different material and styles for the GXE and SE? It's just kind of strange to me that the spoiler is like rubber. Does anyone know much about these? Thanks!!!

all 89-94 had that rubber wing. its like a nerf type feel to it, that is normal. although the bending is not. bascially on ebay you got to watch what you buy. reading the ebay seller discription is the best way and also emailing them questions before buying. you got what you paid for. as for the other old wing, you could have gotten an after market one that the original owner put in.

btw only se maxima's had the wing

Hi, thanks for the reply. My car is a GXE(atleast that's what I was told) and when I bought about 3 years ago, it came with a wing. So, now that you mention that, the person who had originally owned it, might have put a factory looking spoiler on it. However, my car did have a lot of extras that I have never see on other 3rd gen. Maxima's. When I bought the most recent spoiler off of ebay, I just assumed that it was like the hard plastic one, I had before. Now, all I have to do, is bring to a shop and have it painted and installed.

SE's come standard with the spoiler

but GXE's had an option from the factory for a spoiler so it could be bought with one....not only SE's had it from what I understand

When I went to buy my first Maxima, the SEs all had a spoiler, but you could have the dealership put one on for a fee if you bought a GXE. I don't think it was really an option, just something you could pay extra to get.

If you look, all GXEs come from the factory with the third brake light in the rear window. All SEs have the third light in the spoiler. The dealerships most of the time didn't even bother to disconnect the one in the window and I don't think I have seen one with it taken out (like it had been that way from the factory -- a factory car isn't going to have two third brake lights).

During the time when the 3rd Gen Maximas were "new" you could buy aftermarket spoilers that were fiberglass from aftermarket companies. Your car probably had an aftermarket one, then you bought a dented up OEM one.
