I think I can handle the detailing, and Andy said he would do it while its out of the car for me anyway.

I stopped by today everything looked under control,

And the JDM factor doesnt make it any harder to install really, the milage is low and its alot easier to find

I paid a little over $1100 for my engine, they can ship and deliver but I delivered it myself.
cool i know where that is, i'll have my cousin swing by there. also to go along with what every one else has been asking, are the jdm and usa varients of the VE pretty much the same thing?

also im pretty sure this has been covered before, but while we are in this topic, is a (JDM?) VE swap do-able into a 91 VG, or would is just be cheaper to get a 92+ SE

they mount diffently, the cost for making it fit will be $$$. better just selling your vg and getting a ve 5spd like i did. makes installs alot easier

Damn, thats really close to me to!! I may have to stop by there and see whats good. My engine is already in 200,000. Don't know how much it has left!! Not to forget my brother drived it like hell!!! I could spend about $1,500. D-sta, if you go, hit me up on the PM to give me that quote!!

WTF? no they don't. the mounts are different, but the crossmember is the same, and the mounting points are all the same. the trannies even bolt up to the other engine. the fun part is the ECU wiring. ain't gonna happen unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

Jay, Diego... sounds like you guys have this project well in hand! Good luck with everything. And just to add to the whole "benifits of a JDM VE" topic, all the research I've been able to come up with seems to suggest no major benifits other than what everyone else stated about the low mileage. But like someone else touched bases on, that may not always be true, and you may want to ensure you have some sort of written warranty/guarantee to cover that end. I'd hate to see ya if you put it in, only to find out that someone -engineered some major component so that it will work for only the first 1,000 miles.

The engine comes with a 6 month guarantee and unlimited miles so I think if anything is wrong with the motor it will show within those 6 months. I also agree with you that the only reason that the JDM engine might be better is only on the mileage factor.

As far as the taking apart is going its mostly all the harness and connections have to come off and we also have to drop the tranny since we think when the engine is going to get pulled out the pressure plate might get stuck with the bell housing of the tranny. So the tranny is coming out first which I think might be today and we'll see how that goes and update you guys. Actually Maximan190 is picking me up in two or so to go see Jason's car and talk about doing a manual swap at my friends shop.

From my experience, just unscrew the oil cap and see what the valve train looks like. My old motor didn't run that great and the valve train was covered with this reddish brown varnish. I ran synthetics in it for over 50k and it didn't clean it off. Plus when I pulled the heads, the allen head bolts were FILLED with black oily goop. It's pretty clear that my original engine was neglected in the oil change dept. Most of the engines that run well, feature a nice clean aluminum colored valve train. My low miler replacement engine looks like the day it rolled out. My current engine in the car I currently have has over 100k and it's valve train also looks nice and aluminum colored.

OK so today Joe picks me up and we go to the shop, I take out all the old studs and suprisingly none of them broke they all came out perfectly, the intake manifolds are both off and the exhaust manifolds are off from the new engine. According to Andy the tranny and Motor are ready to come out, all connections are disconnected...so far so good. Joe took some pictures I forgot to take my camera so hopefully he will post them tonight.

Lol.....Joe was there to talk to Andy on the labor rate of a manual swap primarily. Andy said that the tranny will be coming down today hopefully. I asked him online last night if he needed me today but he said that he didn't since he has the tranny holder to bring it down, plus I have to do some stuff, so tomorrow for sure I will be at the shop. He said for sure the car will be ready on Sunday and Saturday I will be there all day.

everything is fine, i just helped diego remove the intake plenum... now i have a better idea of how that actuator valve vacuum system hooks up for when my intake is swapped with the 5sp

plus i was talking to andy mainly regarding el swap...he can do it but im leaning back toward jeff now..

what if izzy was there

Are you guys saying that the JDM engine is alittle bigger than the US one? Is it any more difficult to fit in there?

No not at all, its the same size. Just the tranny is coming out just to make sure the engine will come out more easily because we think that the pressure plate might hit the bell housing of the tranny on its way out so instead of taking that risk we rather take the tranny out which is no big deal on a lift. also if you look where the belts are they are very close to the body meaning that there isn't too much space to move the engine so really the engine has to come straight up and out. Tomorrow I should take pics and the engine bay should be empty.

How much would be a good price for a rebuild on my engine? My mechanic said like $3,000.00, that seems high when I could get a JDM longblock for $1,050.00. I thought a rebuild would be cheaper.

when i pulled my motor, i left the tranny attached..it really wasnt an issue, just have 2 other people helping (one to work the puller and one to help you guide the motor/tranny out). you have to let the tranny drop about a foot lower than the motor in order for it to come out nicely, but it does work..the interesting part will be putting the combo back in the car.

working, but if you guys are there late one day I could swing by, also I dont know if I asked you to already but I need you to bang out the bottom of my heat sheild for the shifter so the bottom of the shifter doesnt hit it anymore, I think if you look at it youll see what Im talking about.

also Let me know what you want as far as cleaning stuff, I want to give you something for helping me out so much.

Today at the shop, the tranny was taken out, whoever did the clutch before did a careless job but don't worry Jason it will be fine this time around. The clutch with only 10k miles dead. Pressure plate a bit burned. Flywheel came off no problems. Then I installed the new studs and cleaned the surfaces on the block and manifold so the new gaskets went on a clean surface. Assembled the manifold back using the new nuts and washers. Took off the stock y-pipe and cat. Then we took out the engine, that thing is huge b11ut its out. The car needs two new motor mounts and a dust boot for the steering rack we spoke about this. Tomorrow I will be there also and update you guys, the new engine might be goin in tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. I e-mailed Jason about 33 pictures of today and hopefully he can post them up since I don't have time.
