Clutch pedal plugs
Clutch pedal plugs
This is for all of you who have done an AUTO-MANUAL conversion. We are in the middle of the process on my friends car but are wondering what to do about the absence of the two plugs for the clutch pedal. On all of the manual maximas that ive worked on (including mine) there has always been the plugs for the automatics, so i was just assuming that there would be ones for the manuals also. If anyone has or has had our same situation if you could help us out that would be great.
What do you mean pedal plugs? I already did the 5spd swap but, my clutch hydraulics are still kind of f'ed up (I think the hydraulic lines have sludge in them causing it to be "spongy") plus my tranny is worn.
Sorry, ignore it. It's my dad's email. I could get my own but I'm too damn lazy.
Maxmaxima91, don't worry about it. You don't need them. That is the clutch disconnect switch, which disables the ignition if you don't put the clutch in to start it. Let me check tomorrow but, I had to bypass one connection from one of the relays. I can't remember but I thought that was because of the clutch disconnect switch not being installed (so the car would start). I'll get a pic of it as well.

Thanks alot shadow, that would be great. We are going to install the tranny as soon as his new flywheel comes, which should be tuesday. If there is anything else that you think i need to know about the swap (92 5spd into a 91 auto) If you could tell me that would be great. We still have the donor car sitting in my driveway so i can basically take any part off of it i want.
The auto ECU will work.
as for the switches, you need to wire up a switch for the cruise control so it know when you've pushed the clutch in, but that won't stop it from getting running. the other fun stuff are reverse lights and starter inhibit when the clutch isn't pushed in. have fun.

KLoWnPR109 - Yes the donor car is a VE
LittlePiggie- Yes you can buy the gauges, we will be selling the whole car in the forsale forums
As for all of the wireing, Sounds like fun. I guess ill have to figure out. Thanks for the help.

You only have to do wiring for the reverse lights to work. Though, I'm lazy so I still haven't gotten around to it yet!
Apparently the ecu's are the same between the auto/manual, it's just that the auto has it's own separate tranny ecu in addition to the main ecu. All I did was take out the plug going to the auto ecu to deactivate it. So, no, you don't need to get the ecu from a manual Maxima for it to work. I removed the following stuff:
-A/T Control Unit (automatic ECU, above main ECU)
-A/T Shift Lock Control Unit (passenger side footwell in corner)
-A/T Inhibitor Relay (a jumper is needed or the car won't start, relay box in front of battery)
That's it. I thought I did more than that but I think that's it. I got pics of all this stuff, and I will post them later this afternoon. One thing you should note is that you do not need to remove the auto ECU or auto shift lock control unit at all. I drove around for awhile with these still hooked up. Though, I decided it was best to just strip the stuff off anyways since it wasn't doing anything.
As far as the tranny installation, everything is pretty much a bolt-on and not really that hard. The manual tranny mounts are different but the axles are the same. The only custom stuff you have to do is for mounting the clutch pedal and master cylinder by drilling 3 holes through the firewall. If you run across any problems or need help just post up and I'll help out as much as possible.
Hehe, on another note I just did a compression check and I am at 100-115psi on every cylinder!!!
Amazingly, I still use my Maxima as a daily driver and it pulls relatively strong considering the compression (it's worn piston rings). Nissan rules! Now I have to find a vg30 or vg33 in good condition to swap in before I put my turbo setup on; damnit!

k thanks for the info shadow, We have already done the clutch pedal mounting so that is out of our way. All we have to worry about is tranny mechanical, and electrical. Are you sure about the 91 se Axles fiting in a 92 5spd tranny. I still have the 92 axles so i could always just swap them.
Well, the pics didn't turn out right unfortunately, so I will have to take them again tomorrow. As far as the difference in axles between the VG and VE tranny's, I'm really not sure because I haven't used that tranny before. The tranny, clutch, flywheel and all of that stuff will just bolt on so I guess the axles are the only thing you'll have to find out about.
