As for the manual SE, again, I get about the same. As a matter of fact, in the city, I get better mileage since I control the revs and gears.

If you are getting crappy mileage, then you may need to investigate. With my auto GXE, I easily get 23 to 26 MPG city. Highway, I can get over 28 MPG with cruise and little hills. This is regardless of the power mode setting.

I've noticed this on a few nissans I've worked on. It maybe worth checking out.
On the gas tank there are a bunch of rubber hoses. With age they crack and leak. Although they are on the top I've had to repair some of them, and the mileage did get much better.

easy on the gas and set the tranny mode switch to "c", you should see an immediate improvement. putting the rocker switch in the middle just makes it bounce back and worth between "p" & "c" depending on pedal position.
item of note: when i leave it in the middle i get some wierd shift patterns when floating @40-50 mph, as if it doesn't know which mode to use...
leave her in "p" and she just flies beautifully.

i have the same thing in my 95 pathfinder
i leave it in auto for gas mileage reasons
you can go WOT and not have it go into power mode.
its all in how fast you move your foot.
you can slap the gas pedal and have it coe on and not even have the car downshift
it doesn't have any adverse affects on life of the tranny

I hate to ask this, but when was the last time you had a full tune up. Even if the hoses are rotted out by the gas tank, the leaking should only be a factor when the tank is full. Other things that can affect gas mileage are, but not limited to:
- Air filter: make sure it is clean
- Spark plugs and ignition system
- clogged or faulty fuel injectors
- vacumn leaks
I am sure the the other .org members can list a number of other things also.

im sure it hasnt been more than a year since it has had a tune up. the man who had it before me was a mechanic and kept the car in top shape. ive been searching the forums and everything seems to lead to a bad o2 sensor. maybe ill replace that, and use some fuel injector cleaner to see what happens. thanks.
