Need advice on VE water pump replacement
#1
I think I may need a water pump some time soon as my car leaves a small coolent puddle every now and again about at the water pump area. The strange thing is the coolant has only gone down about 1/2" on the reservoir in about 1000 miles of driving, but anyway.
Anyone have any advice on doing the water pump swap? Shortcuts? Etc? How much of a pain in the *** is it? It's probably just the gasket or something but as long as I am taking it off I might as well put a new one on.
Thanks,
Jacob

on the VG engine it was a very big PAIN IN THE *** !!
I'd imagine the VE would be too, but i haven't done it, i can look in my book and see, but my waterpump was really a pain.
Before you go doing your waterpump though, check and tighten all your coolant hoses, check your radiator for any holes, and just trouble shoot through the easy stuff first. Then you will get to the Waterpump if it's that.
IF it is your waterpump then yes it's just the gasket. if the actual pump went bad you would know, like on mine the barrings were shot and it started to wobble and hit against my timing belt cover. Dunno if there is anything in the way for it to hit on the VE though. If you can look at it you can tell if it's just the gaskets or if it's shot.
If your good with motors and good hands on and good memory, then it's a good project to take on.
Not for a beginner though, about moderate.

anyone know how much a new waterpump goes for...i've been needing one for a while now. i'm not worried about the work, my dad owned his own mechanic shop for 25 years....so i'll let him do it.
i'd just like to know about how much it costs...cuz he'll make me buy the parts
