head gasket question? need help

i know that its about that time to replace my head gasket since its showing oil leakage around the head. couple of questions, has anybody attempt this task before and how hard is it? is there any head gasket out there that would bump up my compression? if not, would i need the complete head gasket set (the cost is about $200)? before attempting this head gasket replacement i will need to replace my knock sensor since my 200,000 mile ve motor is sluggish. oh yea, my radiator is leaking fluid also and will need to be replace. also, it seems that i'm leaking oil some where around the pulley area would that be cuz of worn front and rear crank shaft oil seals? its crazy cuz everything is leaking in this car. any other tips for gaining or restoring some HORSE POWAH will be thankful. does NISSAN COURTESY have these parts for cheap?

Re: head gasket question? need help

With 200K on the clock and oil leaks all over the place I would seriously consider a engine compression and leak down test. It's totally possible your engine could be getting tired internally. There is no head gasket that will bump up compression for what you are looking for. Many have pulled their heads for various reasons, including myself. It's do-able job for a advance DIY's with a FSM. The front crank seal is a common seal to wear out, but I would recommend completly cleaning the botton of the oil pan and watch for the oil leak on a daily basis to se exactly where the rear oil leak is coming form. I did this and realize my rear oil leak was coming from the oil pan and not the rear oil seal.

Dont forget to change the sub-harness along with the Knock sensor! (its the main problem).

Since your fuel rails will be out you might wanna check the resistance on the injectors to see if any are shot. Then buy the seal kit for the injectors, since they are known to leak! (you can search for an old post of mine where I pulled all six injectors).
