Flowmaster Muffler Question...

Im really stuck on getting the flowmaster 60 series muffler. i like the low sound and its not too loud. does anyone know if this will work with my stock b pipe or will i have to get an aftermarket b pipe from warpspeed. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanx.

I was under the impression that a muffler shop can easily attach any muffler to just about any exhaust pipe. It shouldn't be rocket science. But I might be wrong...

ANY decent muffler shop will know what to do. resonators help quiet the exhaust noise, so it's your call if you want it or not.

I have a flowmaster on my 92se. There is nothing special that needs to be done. Just have it welded on. Same goes with the tips, and on that note, I think resonated tips are overated, as I do not perceive that they make enough of a difference to justify their purchase. I have a 2 chamber (40 series) on mine. It is pretty loud, though. Most of the time I like the way is sounds, but sometimes it annoys me. I tried removing my converter from the exhaust altogether and it was the worst sounding car that I have ever heard. It was super tinty. I put on a universal cat and actually used a glasspack as a resonator, and it took the tintyness away. If I had to do it again, I would probably just buy the Borla (XR1 of course).

Stock y and b pipes? What cat are you using?

All stock. Just had em cut off the old, put on the Borla and add a nice tip. y- pipe will be next though. It has a really deep tone, barely noticible at first but seems to have livened up a bit. Drones a little but nothing drastic.

The flowmaster will drone alot, as my does. Don't get me wrong, I mean it still sounds cool, but it can get annoying. I wish I would have went with the XR1. There is no need to change the B-pipe. My cat is a $50 universal cat from Pep Boys, and I actually used a glasspack as a resonator. It was still a little too loud and tinty sounding until I resonated it. But with the stock cat, the flowmaster might not be as loud as mine is. I replaced mine because it was bad. If you are going to do it, do it right and get the Borla XR1.

i had a flowmaster 40 series on mine as well (not a very good choice for a 3 liter but it's all they had) and i was very disapointed. it sounded terrible and was way too loud in the car. i highly recommend magnaflow mufflers flow. i love the sound of mine. mine was cheaper than the flowmaster and is stainless steel so it should last a lot longer than the flowmaster.

i wish i could hear what the borla or magnaflow mufflers sound like. i hate the sound of the flowmaster 40 series. listen to the 60 series on their site. (www.flowmastermufflers.com) its deep and not loud at all. i think it would sound better on a max, than it does on the integra on the website. what do you guys think? also, does anyone know of a site where i could hear different mufflers?

dang, i knew i should have recorded it while my car was running. from what my friend says if i punch it and pass by him it sounds like a small v8. nice and mean sounding but not too loud. it also doesn't drone to bad at all. this is the magnaflow 14829

there are some sound clips on the magnaflow site. i'll listen to them and see which one sounds closest to my car.

if i remember correctly it cost about 115 installed. they probably had a deal going on or something. check out your local muffler shops and you might be able to find one.

after calling around for prices, 160 seems to be average. mtcook must have hit some muffler sale.

i want to get the 3 inch race series with the design i have. i think it's model number 14835 and looks like the picture that i posted of mine. that should do pretty well with my turbo setup.

how does the race series sound? i hear it's a bit meaner sounding.

nice deep sound, kinda rumblish at idle, drones a bit at crusing speed but quiets down above 70 mph or 2500 rpm. haven't heard a street series before so i can't really compare.

The magna flow might be a good alternative for the flowmaster on a Maxima, but I was hesitant to buy one because a buddy of mine had them on his car (although it was a 3.4liter cutlass), and they sounded like garbage. It was realy tinty until the car warmed up, then it sounded kind of ok. Usually I am a flowmaster freak, but I'm thinking that they are best when used with a V8. As far as 4 or 6 cylinders, the best sounding cars that I have heard have all had a Borla XR1. But they are pricey (about $130).

I agree, especially because it was on an Olds. I put the flowmaster on mine becuase I already had it laying around. But I would have rather of gone with something else. Besides, the guy that put mine on replaced the entire exhaust from the y-pipe back (2 1/2") for only $150. I thought that was a pretty good deal.
