On the way back from Disneyland on Sunday my wife and I were hit by a 89 Chevy Blazer driven by a uninsured, unlicensed guy driving his buddies truck.

Tell the insurance company you had 14 15 inch subwoofers in your back bumper a long with $42,000 in performance parts with toyo tires, and a nice set of rims. Then, sue the guy on top of that.

 

and people gasp when I tell them it costs me $280 for insurance on my Maxima...
it's because of fraudulent claims like that driving up insurance costs for everyone.

 

would that 280 be for 1, 6 or 12 months coverage

The subject of this thread sucks, and doesnt make any sense. You should be hating the fool who drove into you, not the SUV. Although it was a chevy, so I can see how you could hate it. Seriously, people give SUV's a bad name all the time, let it at least be desreving. If he was in a maxima, would you then hate maximas?

I see you own some classic offroad vehicles, and that's cool, but keep them out of my commute unless you are actually hauling something, OK?

ummmm those blazers stuck, trust me, my parents have a 91 for us "kids" to drive. It doesnt stop worth ****, then again it doesnt go with **** either. I hate driving it, its the 4.3l 4x4. I wouldnt even think of taking it off-road, it would actually fall apart.


now my Dad's 98 Durango on the other hand.... it can turn well, along with brake, it brakes harder than the max does.

The Durango is great, not only does it make a good run around car for parts and such, but it call also hold full size sheets of particle board, its fun as hell off-road, and has gobs and gobs of torque.

still, I'm in the minority who actually use their SUV the way its ment to be used (except the Jimmy, the only reason why they bought that was for the 4wd for when we go skiing, I'd rather have an LSD max though).

I wish they had harsher laws for people with out insurance, much less with out a license, please tell me this guy is in jail or was taken into custody or something....

Guess what I drive an SUV. I drive a 98 Jeep Cherokee. Yeah its a company vehicle but I love it and have never rearended anyone in it or wrecked it otherwise.

Its not the vehicle but the driver that crashes. Does an SUV drive by itself? I understand that people get upset because an suv causes them to wreck or wrecks them but thats because there are more SUVs on the road now a days and not because the SUV magically drove itself and wrecked someone or that they are even less safe than other cars. I know my Jeep weighs less than a Maxima and it handles fine for normal daily driving...granted its not a slolum queen but its perfectly safe for daily normal driving.

I owned a 89 blazer that was ragged and given to my brother that still rags it. It has 170000 on it now and has had way WAY less problems than any of my maximas and still runs and drives good. It doesnt have the little annoying things go wrong like window regulators and exhaust studs and such. The only thing that has been done to it is the oil changed regularly, dist. cap and rotor replaced, plugs and an alternator.

Thats it and yes its a 4.3 and has plenty of power.

My dad just got rid of an old work van that had the 4.3 in it...guess what it had over 300k on it (used to be an airborne express van) and the only major thing he had changed on it too was the alternator.

you people can say what you want to about domestics but they arent crap like most of you want to believe and am just about tired of hearing all the domestic bashing. I have owned domestic and foreign cars and they are all about the same if you take care of them. I have probably owned more than 20 cars in my life so far and can speak from experience. I dont want to hear someone that owned one domestic that was a piece put down all domestics because of that one car he owned.

Sure, your Cherokee is a little heavier than a Maxima, but tell me, how many Cherokee-sized SUV's are out on the roads? Not many. Most are Explorers, Blazers, Suburbans, Expeditions, etc, weighing well over 4000 and sometimes 5000 lbs.

You're having never rearended or wrecked means nothing in relation to the tens of millions of SUV's on the roads.

I never said that SUV's crash themselves. It is the ignorant drivers of the vehicle that is responsible, But because SUV's are tall and heavy, they do substantially more damage to smaller, lighter cars.

Yes, SUV's handle and brake poorly as a side effect of their weight and height. And yes, there are more SUVs on the roads than ever. Put this together and the roads are becoming ever more dangerous to those of us who enjoy driving smaller, more nimble cars.
