sorry not to say anything but they are more reliable imo ive had problems with the max the usual with the manifold studs breaking running lean, injectors not firing, vtc not engaging. so for with the eclipse the only problem i had was my timing belt snapped but thats because im at 89000 miles and i have the engine that wont suffer from crankwalk so watch what you say about reliabilty if thats what you mean. dont get me wrong i love the maxima but when it comes to speed and reliability the eclipse takes it no contest from my opinion

i agree with you, the ve engine is not very reliable. most of nissan's other engines are, however. i've heard of many people having trouble with mitsu's. here is some more proof (this is for newer vehicles but i'm sure it hasn't change all that much). mitsubishi is under ford and chrylser... that's pretty bad. everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course so i'll stick with mine being mitsubishi has worse reliability than nissan.

Here is my question though. What year does this car cover. Obviously its not for a 10 year old Nissan...you see that kinda makes the chart irrelavant since some have improved on their reliability (GM) and others have gone the other way probably over the years.
I agree that Nissans are very reliable and seem to be more so than Mitsu (from what I read...not experiance) but to use a study of NEW cars is irrevelant when we all own at least 9 year old cars.
I dont car how reliable a NEW car is a year or so down the road since I cant afford to get one. I want to know how well a car holds up over 5-10 years. So far the Maxima holds up pretty well if well maintained IMHO.

Sexier body lines is debatable. Eclipse looks sportier, yet the maxima is sleeker. It's a matter of taste, but with so many eclipses around and the driver image usually associated with them, it's out of question to me anyway. 89,000 miles and no problems? According to the people/mechanics I know that have had experience with them, that's where the trouble starts my friend. Have fun with it.
