Wrong Plugs

Well, today was the first time I have changed the spark plugs in my '92SE in the month or so that I have owned it. As I removed each of the coils, I nervously inspected each for cracks and defects. Luckily, all were in very good condition. However, as I removed the spark plugs, I noticed that they were NGK BKR6S11 resistor plugs! Nonetheless, the car ran like a champ. If it were not for me changing them out (I should have done this the second day I owned the vehicle, but I was lazy), I would not have ever known. Now, there are 6 Bosch (I know, I know. NGK is the only way to go) platinums installed.

While I was there, I also replaced the air filter, cleaned the knock sensor connector, and done some good engine cleaning. Tomorrow, I will replace the fuel filter and possibly replace the front, stabilizer bar bushings (I noticed they were shot when I replaced the driver's axle, tie rod, and lower ball joint).

how much did the Bosch's cost you and are they the +4's?

I am not sure if I am going to go Bosch Platinums or NGK Copper. I've personally got better things to spend my money on than some premium spark plugs that dont add power or efficiency.

I just got the standard Bosch Platinum plugs for about $2.19 ea from AutoZone. I believe the +4's may cost around $2.50 ea.

The VE engine is supposed to specifically use platinum plugs. NGK platinum to be exact. That is why I was so suprised to find the copper plugs in my engine. I guess all the hype about the VE engine not being able to perform w/out platinums is just that: hype.

I highly reccomend you either 1. research before you give advice or 2. use more specific sentences with your advice.

Bosch +4's are NOT crap, infact the Dodge 4.7l engine runs best on them, just like the 5.2/5.9l SBM's run best on Autolite 3923's. If they are burning ALOT of gas, then they would be doing their job, right? and the more gas you burn, the more power you make, right? (generally atleast).

Some people report crappy performance with VG's and VE's others dont. That doesnt make them crappy plugs at all. Copper plugs tend to produce a bigger spark, but they dont last nearly as long.

The only plugs I have problems with are champion, but other people have had create success with them, I just burn threw them like there is no tomarrow, atleast in the 5.2l, but to each his own.

I havent checked my VE's plugs yet, I'll do it after I run it for alittle bit so I can feel the difference and such, but the VE I tore apart had Copper plugs, my dad's 00SE 5spd has NGK platinums.

Hope this clarifies things abit
