Tranny rebuild issue- 3rd gear
Tranny rebuild issue- 3rd gear
OK, after finally deciding to get my auto trans rebuilt, and checking about 10 different shops, I took it in and had it done. The shop has had it 3 days now, and while they have it all back together and working, the rebuilder says that 3rd gear is still a little soft, and he isn't happy with it. They took it back out and re-checked the internals, and everything seems to be fine. Now they think it might be something electrical, although the problem wasn't there before it was rebuilt. Something to do with one of the harnesses, they think..
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Could it be electrical? Any help is appreciated.

what do they mean by "soft" ? the shifting?
if so, then it's likely a valve body blockage in there or a solenoid problem... valve body ports are extremely small and tend to get clogged up when you yank the tranny apart and break loose all the gunk in it. try a tranny flush and see what happens, although I have a feeling you'll wind up needing to pull the VB out and physically clean it....
than again, it may not eb the problem. the tranny shop should know to check this as a culprit pretty quickly, as it's a common problem in any car.

Matt-
I think that's what they mean. Not shifting into 3rd when it is supposed to, possibly shifting a little later than they think it should. I will clarify and pass on the suggestion. I think you are right, though- seems like they should know to check that, or know what the possibilities are. I have not taken delivery of the car yet, so I'll make sure they keep it until it's straight. Thanks for the help.
