3rd gen community... i've been thinking lately about a new car...

okay this might get a little long... i just want to vent and maybe hear some opinions

well here goes.. ever since i was a kid my first dream car was an acura nsx (the original model not the new ones ew) well.. financially it was never resonable until about a year ago when i bought one... a 97 6-speed nsx yellow one with targa top.. but alas financial times went bad and i had to sell it... any ways.. i've been thinkin to myself lately... the 3rd gen was never my dream car.. but over time i have fallen in love with it, and right now am very close to going all out with a 5sp swap and turbo project.. but i sat down with a friend of mine today and spent some time talking about cars... and driving around his s2k... it was fun... and i miss the 2 seater sport car feel.

well here's the dilemma... a part of me says screw the expensive cars with expensive insurance... and go with a 4 door turbo charged family car that i don't have to make a car payment on.. but another part of me says.. save up, don't fix her up any more, sell the parts on it.. and get the nsx a few months or a year down.. now here is the advice i need

if you were in my position (replace the nsx with your dream car) what would you do? if you could only have 1 of the cars that is!? i know this is a "derrick you gotta choose on your own" type of question.. but i want to see if any one else has been in this situation and what has come of it.. or even if you haven't thought about this.. what if you had to choose?

i say go with the happy medium

240sx with sr20det or turbo the KA

You should be able to find one cheap enough to where you wont have a payment depending on your financial situation

If NSX is your dream, then go for your dream. A 3rd gen VE, 5spd was my dream, and that is what I now have. If you can swing the $$$$$$$$$, then have at it. Either way, you seem to be more of a Honda man (not really a bad thing as I also like the NSX and s2k) than a Nissan man; therefore, you will be more partial to that line of automobiles--regardless of what any of us Maxima lovers say.

if I still had a Maxima and someone threw a 96 Impala or a turbo MKIII Supra(black, leather, targa tops, new HGs ) in my face.....I wouldn't hesitate. IMO you only get one chance for **** like this. just think, in the future you may be confined to a egg shaped, 8 seater, 85mph max speed mini-van taking your kids back and forth to summer camp while some little bad *** speeds by in YOUR NSX you could've had back in the day. but itf its not financially wise, I say keep the Maixma and keep piecing stuff together and make the car nicer...its not worth going into financial struggle just to drive your dream car.

Go with the Max Bro, Although i understand your point here. You want your dream car but its to expensive. I would say get the 3rd gen 5spd, you will love it death, i have a 3rd gen VG auto (smaller engine than the 5spd VE) and i love the god damn thing. Either way like you said its your decision. Good luck in whatever you choose, and if you do choose the max... let me know when i'm gonna be seeing you at our Max meets

S2k is a chick car. Sorry.

I was always thinking of getting a pure sports car IN ADDITION to the maxima once the cash is right. So I'd keep the maxima and once you feel financially comfortable, go for a two door (please not s2k).

Derrick, just be smart like me. KEEP the Maxima "AS IS" and enjoy it. It is a great, fun, reliable, roomy, comfy, it goes on and on. I know the nature of man is to have only the best cars, but...you MUST learn to accept the Maxima for what it is. I am going to build me a VERY FAST car, but still will rely on the Maxima more than it.

everyone thanks for the points.. all very good and taken into consideration.. oh and just for the record i am not a honda guy.. ew i do not like just about every honda.. personally i'm a nissan guy in love with the 180 or here known as the 240 fastback of the old days... but the reason i love the nsx so much is cuz it was the first sports car i ever really noticed... oh and i would never buy an s2k lol!

i have my '93 vg auto and i'm never giving her up. ever.
being a single father i greatly appeciate having a sedan that can still blaze a trail when i drop my little girl off.
bit i miss shifting. my problem is the "need" takes over when i've got one hand on the shifter.
so the compromise i've settled on is keeping my max for the kid stuff and making a project car out of an rx-7 once my car's paid off and i've done the engine swap next year.
best of both worlds. 4dsc & rotary powered 2 seat shifter
