I see that just about everyone on here has a fstb how did you get the bolts off. I sprayed some WD40 on them and let it sit for a while and still nothing how did everyone get theres to come off.

are you using a torque wrench?? air tools would be a sure bet to get them off.

-Use a breaker bar-

Did you try using a breaker bar? Usually a straight 18" or larger metal bar with the socket attachment. If you dont have one you can get it at a hardware store or sears, or you can put a piece of pipe over the ratchet/wrench that you are using. You need more leverage to increase the amount of torgue on the bolt.

Brian

If that doesnt work, WD-40 is kiddie spray, compared to PB B'LASTER, get some of that at the local auto supply store for about $3.

Cheers.

find whoever tightened those bolts and kill them. they're only supposed to be torqued to 32 ft-lb.

Yeah as I recall, they weren't really that hard to get off with a medium sized ratchet.

The FSM actually suggests replacing those nuts once they are off. I don't think most people here do this (I didn't), but since these seem to be either frozen or torqued out the wazoo, I'd really think about getting new ones.

Side note: I love looking at my new 18" Sears 1/2" drive breaker bar.

I still need to return an 18" breaker for a 24" breaker mmmmmm
btw, use 6 point sockets when you really have to work on it to get it off. chances are so might higher you'll screw up with a 12 point socket.

I have the same problem. As a matter of fact, one of the bolts on my driver's side is torqued so tight, it is starting to round out. I have used my 18" breaker bar and a pnuematic gun. It is starting to look as if I may have to have the bolt cut off. Oh well, I need new strut insulators anyway.

that happened to my old 93, one of the strut bolts was on sooo tight, probably because of age. anyway, we had to pound a socket on it to get it to come off. I almost owed my friend a new socket.

What size did you use? I know that the bolts are 13mm. Hammering on a 12mm socket crossed my mind. Is this what you did?

ummm, the bolts should be 14mm... they are from the factory. there are only about three 13mm bolts on the entire car when it came from Nissan, and those aren't it.

Mine were all relatively easy to take off with a normal socket. After you get them off, be sure the next time you tighten them to the specified 32-40 lb ft.

I think there are several loosening agents available at most hardware stores that are much better than WD-40, too.

good luck and try not to break anything!
