Hey, I've purcahsed a set of PIAA 1400 series foglights, I tried to install them today but nothing was working. I searched all the forum for messages pertaining to the foglights but to no avil.

the foglight had a harness that had four wires:

one for ground
one for power
one for the supplied on/off switch
one for something i dont know what for

so i hoook the ground to ground, power to the pos terminal, lugged the on/off swtich in, and hooked that wire i dont know into the harness (since it thats where it seemed to go). i turned my car on, hit the on button, nothing happened? any ideas?

i also looked to see if my car is prewired, i took off teh dash, and i didnt see any wire plug for foglights in the dash area. is it prewired? i have a 92 gxe.

what would your guys advise on installing foglights be? the easiest way. lol. i've been working for 5 hours so far, having fun, but getting frustrated.

well it can be one of about 5000000 things lol ive had many fog light problems and i have been through about 6 sets lol i woudl say just hook them up to the factory set up but your car did not come with factory fogs, my second guess would be to make sure all connections are well sealed. make sure no wires are like touching one another. you could have a bad ground, try moving the ground to another place, you might get a spark or a little zap noise when youve found a good one. if thats not working well i cant really say from over here without looking or liek being there. fogs can be very tempramental if those ideas dont work start over. good luck and make sure not to do a half *** job rushing =)

 

alright, i've got power to my on/off switch now. i hear my piaa relay switching when i press the on off button. but the lights don't turn on now. i assume we have power but there must be one thing not wired up correctly.

 

PIAAs are quality light set. they supply water resistant connectors and bullet proof relays. so for maxse91 you might've bought cheap fog light set that are inferior in electronics and wiring.
back to the PIAAs
there should be a 3 wire hook up...
one is red positive to the battery
the other is negative to the battery
and the 3rd wire is positive turn on lead.
the turn on lead should run in line w/ a positive wire on the side marker which are on full time when the parking lights are on.
read the instructions carefully and try again.

The lights are used, so they don't have instructions. They were boutght from a maxima.org seller who says they're in good condition. I have the lights wired like this:

one wire to pos
one wire to ground
one wire to fog light fuse in fuse box (my buddy who had his piaas installed in his truck is who I copied)

so now, I have power to my on/off switch, i hear the relay clicking, but now power to the ilghts

 

well there's another set of power wire for the switch..but from the main harness the third wire should wired to the switched positive..like what i said in my previous post. at this point try connecting the wires to the battery and see which does what then wire them in.

i checked again, the power and ground are obvious, there is one black wire with a ring terminal, and a white wire with a ring terminal. i assume back is ground, white is positive. there is a candy striped wire that is very thing, i think this ist the remote turn on (and its the wire i stuck in the fuse box).

don't wire it to the fuse box...wire it to where i told u at the parking lamp positive...or better yet..test it by wiring it to the battery positive.

Okay, I wired it to the battery positive, still nothing. I hear switching, but no lights turn on.

 

put the positive part of the foglight on the + terminal of the battery and do the same for the negative and the lights should glow...........

I seem to remember having to tinker around with it once. Try to disconect it and then reconect it.If the lights still don't work then double check to make sure all the wires are connected and push the button on the switch so it glows red{which means it's on} now disconect the relay and check the wires in side the relay plug with a volt meter and see if power is getting to the relay. Now if power is going to the relay that means you wired it right so far. Now plug the relay back together and diconect one of the plugs that connects to the lights and use a volt meter to see if power is there. Now if there was power going to the relay but not making it through then the problem is a bad relay,if this is the case try fidiling with it some more.The second case scenario is the power is going to the foglights and there is either a bad connection to the foglighs or both bulbs are malfonctioning. I don't think this is the case though because both lights worked perfectly fine when I shipped them out and I packed them well. Another idea is try swithcing the connections from one bulb to another. Good Luck and use common sense while doing thios to avoid damaging the lights.
