really?? all CAIs(on most any car) that I've heard are always WAY louder when accelerating than any hybrid, pop-charger or airbox setup

Thats what I heard aswell, but on a friends car he went from a cut up stock air box to a CAI and it wasnt as loud but it was much smoother. Its a VG aswell.

I've heard the whole CAI is louder thing, but was surprised to find it wasn't.

CAI's louder than pop chargers? My VG has a hybrid intake using the WSP mid pipe (from their CAI kit) and a Jim Wolf Pop Charger & cone filter (not CAI). Starting just below 1/2 throttle, mine is about as loud as a hot V8 with dual exhausts and straight through glass-packs. I nailed it the other day while driving though an underpass - tremendous echoes from the roar. Sounds good and mean, but loud. I'm wondering if that JWT venturi ring is a better sound amplifier than a air velocity accelerator.('')

I'm hoping it will get quieter when I get it enclosed in a cold air box I hope to feed through ram air.

when I had the fender liner off mine, it was so loud it was painful to run WOT next to a concrete wall.
I've got a friend with an old 5.0 running full exhaust, and he can hear me over his exhaust, even when I give him a 50 ft head start and catch up.

With my VG, just replacing the stock airbox with a Jim Wolfe pop charger added roughly three times the power that the A/C compressor uses up plus a huge improvement in throttle response. Replacing the stock plastic 'mid pipe' with WSP's mandrel bent mid-pipe added another 50% improvement over the pop-only setup. And it's not breathing cold air yet.

Adding a CAI won't feel like you've added a jet engine afterburner to your Max, but you'll get a very noticable performance increase and a much more reponsive engine that's very worth the money. If you have a VE engine (92-94SE), I'd expect more improvement than my VG as the VE's have a very superior engine intake design when you get past the stock airbox. Much better intake mainfold and head design with an extra two valves per cylinder.

warpspeed's out for a couple of weeks they told me on 8-25. However i think it's worth the wait to get their quality and price....50 bucks cheaper than others.

i have the cattman CAI. it looks exactly like the place racing one. he may just put his decal on theirs. it made a notable difference the second i started up the car and took it out on the road. it made gains throughout the entire powerband. the car is quicker and "zippier" in town traffic. and the most difference is the top end. i have the y-pipe and b-pipe and cat and magnaflow as well, so that completes the setup. car is very fast for an N/A VG. car got louder with CAI only. when i added the y-pipe and the rest of it, man did it get loud. it sounds mean. and like RMAX54 said, the echoes in underpasses and tunnels is just to die for. awesome sound. i love it.

Oh Joy! I like the sound too, but am not quite so enthusiastic - I'm not thrilled about announcing my presence to every cop withing a mile when I hit the throttle. In about two weeks, I'll have installed the Warpspeed Y-pipe ,their mandrel bent 'B' pipe finished off with a Magnaflow #14830. Sounds like I'd better add sound damping to my cold air box design work!

Maybe I've just doomed myself to high insurance rates <again>. It will be awfully tough to keep my foot out of it after all the new stuff is installed.
