Describe Your Exhaust System

I have a '91 SE that needs the factory exhaust replaced. The resonator and muffler both have holes. I'm planning on replacing just cat-back for now. I realize replacing the Y pipe is where the real performance upgrade is at, just don't have the money right now. That will have to come in the future.

My question is... what exhaust system is on your cars?

There are a lot of Greddy fans on this forum and while I'd love to get one, I can't afford it. So, what are my other options?

I'd like to improve on the performance, want it reasonably quiet until I really step on the gas (then it should give a low growl), stainless would be nice (salty winter roads here), and affordable. Does anybody have firsthand knowledge of the different stainless universal fit high-flow mufflers on ebay? I'm thinking of the oval style with dual tips. Seems like I could put a standard B pipe with one of those mufflers and have a pretty good, inexpensive system.

Will this work, or is my thinking flawed? Thanks!

My exhaust is "custom mutt"... it's a standard downpipe and y (which i think the braided section finally went - will get back to that)a "generic" 2.5" hi flow cat ($170) piped into full 2.5" tailpipe ($125 - mandrel bent) into a Magnaflow straight through (as in i rolled a racquetball straight through it) muffler 3"in 4"out ($220). All said and done it cost me about $580 after tax.

i loved the natural throaty sound of my v6 stock but this setup makes it sound so much more aggressive. not loud but aggressive. i have friends with 400+hp 'stangs that comment on my exhaust all the time. since my braiding went it sounds even more throaty - like a v8 at idle and baffles at low rpm - when i step on it it rolls right into a nice mellow rumble. . . but still not too loud.

Re: Describe Your Exhaust System

I first went with the catback as well.....and did pretty much the exact same thing you have planned.....warpspeed b-pipe, arospeed muffler.....looked good, sounded good...gave me a nasty exhaust leak though after a while...I just recently put on the warpspeed y, and DAMMMNN!! I love it. I understand why everyone gets the y first haha.

But to sort of answer your questions, yeah it's possible to piece a system together, takes a little extra effort, but thats no big deal. Definitly take a look at www.warpspeedperformance.com, great company, and really reasonable pricing. Search and you'll be able to find some really good deals.....

i have a cat back right now, 2.5" exhaust to a 3" in 4.5" out megan N1 muffler with a dual layer silencer. silencer keeps me from getting more unwanted attention from cops. also gives it a nice deep tone but in the car at WOT the intake roars over the exhaust at any rpm over 3800

I have a full 2.5" custom mandrel bent catback. If you lived in the area I'd give it to you for super cheap with your choice of a 2k2se muffer or Brospeed Performance.

my exhaust system constists of a vg30et manifold with a custom crossover pipe with a custom made t3 flange that the turbo bolts to. from there i had a custom flange made to bolt on to the turbo and then piping was welded on to that for a down pipe to the front of the engine. a flange was welded on the end of the down pipe for easy removal then the piping was shot all of the way back to my magnaflow muffler, which i highly recommend.

Well my stock setup was all rusted and I failed inspection for my exhaust leak. So i got myself the G-Reddy cat-bak with the Warpspeed y-pipe And i got it installed yesterday and all i got to say i love it. The G-Reddy cat-bak isnt in no way a ricer muffler the tone that comes out with it is wonderful and toped off with the y-pipe you cant beat it. Its tame at lower rpm and at wot its great i love it. If you cant get the g-reddy cat-bak now dont worry about it but try to get the warpspeed y pipe cause it mandrel bent with tig welding all i gots to say about that its the ****

I have a stylin busted bolt on my manifold that clicks, a hole in my rear manifold, and a rip in my flex section, so it's loud. very loud. but it's crap loud not good loud.

in the next two weeks I am getting headers, straight pipe, cat-back, and muffler. all 2.5" and all warpspeed except the muffler and headers.

also, if anyone is interested in a CAI, I am putting together a kit within the next month. look in the classifieds

I just wanted to say that the tongue exhau..err..exchange between our female pop stars initiated a new era in sexual perception. The repercussions are multifaceted and momentarily intangible.

Sorry, I don't have access to OT.

i have an 89 se with a warpspeed y-pipe a test pipe insted of a cat (in florida we dont have any inspections so we get away with it all usually) and i took it to a buddy of mine at a local muffler shop and he re did my whole pipe from the cat back to the muffler in 2.5 inch pipe and i had a dtm 3a racing muffler but decided when i did the whole exaust change to go with a greddy style muffler. this setup really made my car sound mean. she really sounds good at idle not to loud but beefy.

-WSP 2.5" Y
-WSP 2.25" B (wanted a little more low-end)
-Carsound 2.5" cat
-Borla Turbo 2.25" muffler

I'd suggest this setup if you don't have alot of money because it's relatively cheap but sounds great. It's also fairly quiet. I think all together mine was about $500-550 and it's full SS since the Borla is SS also. Under $600 for a full SS exhaust is a great price.
