Well, my '88GL (Canadian Model floater) was written off last week when I was rear ended (the car was anyway). Too bad, as it was running like a charm although the body was rusting away. Anyhooow, I picked up a '92 GXE automatic tonight with 170000km on it. White with a spoiler on the back and the 'mystery canister' in the trunk. Good exterior, rustproofed, and a very clean interior (the climate control looks cool and blows COLD) and every power accessory (even the antenna) works great. The guy recently had the water pump and timing belt done as well as a new flex pipe in the exhaust.

HOWEVER, the speedo doesn't work BUT the odometer does. I've done a search and don't really see an answer to the situation where one works and the other doesn't. What could be the problem? Also, if anyone has tips or problems to watch for in a GXE, I'd appreciate it.

is it digital? if not, just get a new speedo. it's a seperate unit inside the cluster. if it was the speed sensor, the odo would not work.

oh yeah, check all the cnnections on the back

 

things to watch out for in a 3rd gen period are:window regulators(these go bad), shifter bushings. tranny goes afer around 148,000-160,000 miles on the VG's.
