autozone power steering hose-wrong #

this may have already been mentioned, but be careful if you go to Autozone to get your pressure hose. The one they have listed for the 90 GXE is wrong. Ask for the SE version. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that till I got my old one off, and didn't have another vehicle to go exchange it. Plus, on top of everything else, the hose they gave me is 20 bucks more...

well, the CORRECT one is only $21.99. The incorrect one that they will give you is $46.99. Make sure you get part # 71145, which they say is for an SE. It has straight connectors on each end, with the pin to keep the fitting from turning. The one that I got has a 90 degree bend on the lower end, and no pin. Anyone with a SE- does that sound correct for an SE car?

Yep, it will fit, cause I did it out of necessity this weekend. Basically, you have to get the lower fitting started, then when it is almost tight, you pivot the hose back toward the firewall, which brings the whole thing away from the manifold....still ****es me off, though. They probably won't take it back, either, now that it's been installed...not that I really want to go back through the nightmare of installing it again anytime soon

FOUND YOU!!! I was looking for this thread from the other thread.

Yah, you're right about the bends. I bought my hose from NAPA for 41 bucks, and it was with straight connectors on each end. 2 things warned me about Maxima model hoses...
First I went to parts bin , where they show the 2 different hoses for the SE and GXE. And second, the NAPA folks asked me which model.

Yeah, Autozone lists 2 different part numbers too, only they have them switched around, so if you go in and ask for one for a GXE, you get the one for the SE, and vice-versa.

I just had one put on last week. I also purchased from autozone, and in reading I guess I got lucky because it fit. I have a 94 GXE

That's what I was told. The power steering pressure hose is what I was told to ask for.

Yes, it's the high pressure hose that goes from the pump to the control valve? I got the one that has straight connectors, and i went to Pep boys. However, it didn't have the sure-fitting pins on the ends which, for security reasons, I wish it did. What a crap project, without the perfect tools (like in most car maintenence), it is very difficult. I made the mistake of starting with the top first. *rework.

edelman cataloging:
89-91 SE = 71445
89-91 GXE = 71446
92-93 GXE (Sohc) = 71445
92-93 SE (DOHC) = 80100
94 GXE (sohc) = 71445
Now here's the goofy part:
94 with dohc with 24 valve engine = 80101 (same as 95-99)
94 with dohc without 24 valve engine = 80100 (same as 92-93)

So much for catalogs being perfect.
I didn't know the VE was available without 24V

71445 straight hose with banjo fitting at either end 28 1/16" long
71446 90degree bend at one end dtraight at the other, banjo fitting at either end 29 3/4" long

80100 = straight hose with banjo fitting at either end 28 3/4" long
80101 = straight hose with banjo fitting at either end 26 3/4" long

Yep, that about sums it up. That catalog is wrong. Should be 71145 for the 89-91 GXE. Excellent info!
