What is this white buzzing box under my dash?

OK, I've been having this problem with my headlights. Bulbs are OK, but sometimes one low beam works, sometimes the other, and sometimes both. When I use the high beams, they work and so do the daytime running lights. HOWEVER, when I shut off the high beams, the blue indicator on the dash dims a little and this buzzing starts plus one of the low beams goes out. (The high beams do go out). I've traced the buzzing to this white plastic box under the dash with a bunch of wires attached by a connector. What is thing? Some type of relay? Anyone know? Oh, by the way, when the lights are working properly, this box makes a CLICK when I turn the lights on and off. It only makes the buzzing after the high beams are used.

Thanks.

sounds like a wiring issue. when i had installed a ghetto cai i accidentally pinched one of the wires to the headlights and it caused a short which did what you are talking about. you might try checking the wires on the headlights and make sure none are bad.

That buzzing box is most likely a buzzer. There are things used in electronics called buzzers, that basically do what you have stated. They make a buzzing noise as an indicator for something. I haven't looked around under my dash to actually know if there is one in there, but from what you have explained it sounds like a buzzer.

Although it buzzes, I don't think this box is supposed to be a buzzer. Normally it makes a 'clicking' noise when the lights are turned on, but when I use the high beams something gets stuck or some relay in this box gets stuck, and then this box/connector thing starts buzzing.

there's no buzzer in our cars. like mtcookson said, check the wires and see if they're damaged or not. might as well fix it now then risking another problems that may arise from this.

I know there probably isn't a buzzer in the car, just what he explained sounded quite like one.

it's probably just a relay that keeps turning on and off which in turn is making the buzzing sound.

Ok, did some poking around under the dash (man, my neck is sore now). I disconnected the wires leading to the buzzing thingy and discovered that with the wires disconnected, I get no lights on chime and no dashboard lights at all. However, the stupid high beam, low beam problem persists, as does the buzzing. Now I'm thinking it may be whatever relay is under the dash that controls the lights?...
