Help Rough Idle Problems
Having problems with rough idle after start up than my check engine light comes on. It use to idle down a the check engine light would go off but now it stays on. Changed out my spark plugs with the original nissan plugs. Problem is still there. I taking it to the dealer on Sat. Any suggestions before I spend my hard earned money
What Red92MaxSE said. I had a lumpy idle with occasional surges and stalls. I replaced my air filter and plugs and it got better, but still not fixed. Then I changed out all my vacuum lines and check valves and it was almost perfect. Just mildly lumpy, no more surging or stallling. Then I finally thought to clean out my throttle body and bam! that fixed it.
My 93 SE with the VE30DE idles rough and seems to me a little low, about 550- 650 RPM in gear and occasionally surges to 1500 or so, also in park it will sometimes idle around 1500 as well, normal is 800-900. Any Ideas? It also occasionally stalls.

Fixing Low Idle thats rough
Hey, i have a little tip that might help you out. Obviously the first thing you want to consider with a rough idle is fuel injectors, spark plugs, things like that. But if your idling is too low, i know how to fix that. You have to get access to the cars ECU, its computer. On my car, and probably any maxima after 89', it is located on the passenger side, on the dash near the passengers feet. you have to remove the plastic panel to get at it. When you locate it, you'll see a screw with tape over it. Now before you do anything, make sure the car is warmed up, and when it is, put it into drive, and put on the E-Brake. Then turn the screw Clockwise to increase the rpms, and Counterclockwise to decrease the rpms. Try not to turn it too far clockwise, because if you do, you will go into diagnostic mode. You'll know you've gone too far clockwise because the car will quickly fall in rpms when you hit diagnostics mode, and you'll see lights blinking on the computer. If this happens, dont panic, just simply turn it back down. Try to get a rpm (in drive) around 750-900, that should suite you fine
