overheating

Hi max people......
I need some help with my 89 max. I just changed my radiator, and
is still heating up, aslo had my termo replaced not to long ago.
I drive it to work every day but lately the temperature is going up,
and I don't see any indication that I need a new water pump, is not
leaking, and I just got a new belt too, also the temp sensors are new I'm looking for some one that had this same problem. The only thing I need to repalce is water pump and sending unit. The weid thing is that sometimes is normal, and some other times its doesn't read, but when I
open it up it feels hot. Is any other maxima having the same gripe, and
is so what was it that fixed it?

Thanks
EC

2 things - the water pump may be bad it dosent have to leak to be bad. another thing is that there may be air in the lines causeing the overheating. pop open the radiator cap and open the bleeder valve on the intake, start the motor and pour antifreeze in as you need it. before you do this wait till the electric fans kick on so you know it up to temp.

I've been having the same problem.. although too much pressure builds up inside the rad and the hose just pops off and there goes all my fluid. It seems to do this every week, i had just changed the waterpump. Also alot of steam seems to be coming from the rad.. probably is cracked and needs replacing? What do you guys think i should do

sounds like there's something plugging the system in your case. if it's popping off hoses, that's not good.

sounds like it's time to drain the system and try to flush out whatever's causing the blockage. could even be something as simple as a stuck thermostat.

Even new thermostats can fail. Sometimes the vanes on the water pump can corrode off leading to a barely functioning pump. As the other's have said, bleed the air from the system.

Nismo-s13: Look for a collapsed hose. If thermostat has failed, temp goes way into the red but shouldn't pop any hoses - unless hose bad or not tightened properly. You might want to bleed air as well - esp if pressure a problem.

Check my list, and still I drove it to my dads house from Pasadena to Orange County (which is about 45 to 55 mins depending on traffic) and the damn thing still over heated.

List of parts changed:

Thermostat
Radiator Hoses (top and Bottom and Hose That connects to thermostat)
Res Tank
Radiator Cap
Temp Sensor
Took off Radiator Cap / Air Bleeder Valuve and Poured Anti Freez in with engine running and Heater on MAX.

I did this about a week ago to stop the over heating, now its done it again. Do you believe my Radiator needs to be replaced as it is the only component left to change? Please tell me where I am messing up @. Thanks.

The main symptom is Pressure Build Up, anyone know how much i should pay, if i cant replace it myself, to get my heating core unplugged? Thanks people i really appreicate the help and information.

Shove power nozzle in one end and pull trigger

my uncle said to buy that new "prestone" kit that has the "T" like tool where u attach the water hose, and he said cut my heater hose, put it in between and try that. Anyone had any experience taking out their heating core? I wouldnt mind having the local radiator shop unplug mine for 50$ or just get a new one, i just need to know how difficult it would be to pull out.

Thanks for the suggestions people. Also i thought I was having fuel Injector problems because my car would do a minor "pull" effect when I pressed on the gas, turned out to be a bad PCV Vaulve

consider yourself lucky or perhaps just delayed on the injectors though.

Heater cores are usually a pain in the a$$ because they are up under the dash and you have to remove a bunch of stuff (usually while laying upside down) to get at them. Other than that, it's not really a big deal- just like a baby radiator.

But, I have not actually done one on a Max, so it could be a little different.
