Clutch Pedal Click

Hey
Lately I've noticed that my clutch pedal clicks when I shift. It doesn't do it all the time and doesn't appear to effect the transmission or the clutch. The car shifts smoothly from gear to gear. I'm worried that it might be the clutch cable. It usually clicks right above the friction point and the sound is loud enough that I can hear it over my stereo and I can feel it click on my foot through the pedal. Anyone else run into this?

It's pretty common, though I don't know what it is. a few members over the years have actually had the bracket break and had to re-weld it.

only thing I can tell you is to try to see what's going on down there while someone else pushes the pedal down. not much room in there to do that, but if you can see what's going on down there you might be able to figure something out... watch for the shaft binding or something.

btw, it's a hydraulic clutch- no cables. it's got a hinge type guy attached to a pushrod that goes directly into the clutch master cylinder.

I have/had a similar situation...the sound was coming from the area where the slave cylinder presses the clutch fork ( i think thats what its called). My bet is on a bad slave cylinder...cuz i think there were traces of fluid below the slave cylinder and the level of clutch fluid had gone slightly down in the master cylinder...

I topped off the master cylinder with DOT 3 brake fluid and since then the sound hasnt appeared again...but i think i will change the slave cylinder anyway.

My bracket broke. The metal cracked where it bolts to the firewall.

The bolt on the top somehow popped it's crummy tack welds, putting more stress on the firewall bolts. Over time, it cracked the bracket.

I got a new clutch assembly from a junk yard car ($50) and had a guy fab up a support bracket ($90@$30/hr) and put a big washer ($.50) in on the top bolt so it doesn't happen again. He thought of the washer, because I initially wanted him to try and weld it back on.

Damn stealership wanted $1100 to fix the "problem."
